Hi my name is Brett, I'm new to this whole thing. I've been suffering from anxiety/ IBS for 12 years now. I've had tons of tests done on me to find out why I kept getting so sick but nothing, I was put on amitryptoline to calm my nerves down so I wouldn't get sick so much everytime I worried, but the meds were putting me down and out and I had no energy to want to do ANYTHING! So that was 3 years ago and I dropped out of school lost my healthcare and couldnt get myself help anymore, but now I have it again and I am trying to help myself get better again. I am now on Buspirone for anxiety which is milder then amitryptoline, and is again suppose to make my bowel movements less bringing my anxiety down but I still have the fears of getting sick in the wrong place, its a form of agoraphobia, I am scared to go places where I dont or have very little access to a bathroom. I won't eat all day if I know i have to go somewhere I know doesnt have a bathroom or am preoccupied restricting me from using one. I have dealt with this fear since the age of 10! and it controls my life as far as doing my job right, I do everything out of nerves and I am always worrying about the task I am doing, if I'm gunna screw up or get yelled at, am I doing this wrong? etc. I have chronic nausea every morning and scared to leave my house to go to work, I work with my father so you think that would help? It does to an extent but I still fear everywhere I go, if im going to get sick. Does anyone have this issue? Help me out! I dont know how to get rid of this! I hope this program helps me, I want to be normal! I want my girlfriend to be happy that I am well and I can go anywhere at the drop of a hat! please help!

Hi Brett,
I have the same IBS problem as you and always worry about finding a bathroom. I usually just take half an Immodium if I know I'm going to be some place where a bathroom is not nearby. You can try taking Immodium. So far it's worked for me really well but I totally understand what you are going through as I too have this same problem. It restricts the things I do in life because I let it get the better of me!! I hope this helps you in some way to feel a bit better.

By the way, Immodium is an over-the-counter medication that can be bought at your local pharmacy, no prescription needed. Sure hope this helps you Brett! It's been a life saver for me.

dulce,

Thank you very much for your insite on what I am dealing with and it is good to know that about Lucinda, because now i definitely want to get that book! I've read almost every forum on this site practically up and down just trying to gain as much knowledge as I can on what other people are going through besides myself and how I can relate to what they are thinking and feeling.

You are my first response, and what a good feeling that you get when you know that a total stranger goes and takes the time out to make you feel a bit better about yourself!

I hope that things continue to get better with your anxiety and good luck to you as well! thank you for the inspiration!

Thank you HOPE! I will consider buying the Immodium because i also have an issue that everywhere i go i wont go there unless i have a couple beers first! I know this is totally not right to do but it is the only thing that completely erases my anxiety of having to go to the bathroom while being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I start the program this week, the 30 day free trial to see how i react to it, I hope it can help me rid this dirty deed i do before going places and can help me cope the RIGHT way!

Brett....my sister also dealt with IBS for years like your saying...she too had tests and all sorts of doctors say nothing was wrong that she just had IBS......Then after her pregnancy she went to see a gastrointestinal doctor (a different one) and he said most people with IBS have an overgrowth of bacteria in the gut and that makes the symptoms even worse so he prescribed her a specific antibiotic that she took for 10 days and she was symptom free for just a little over a year. The doctor said sometimes this antibiotic works for only months sometimes year to years and when the symptoms come back its time for another dose.....so she did start to have symptoms again and she took the antibiotic again and it worked.

Like I said its a specific antibiotic for the gut and it doesnt disolve into the stomach it dissolves in the intestines where the bacteria live and so thats why it works.

Here is the name of the antibiotic Xifaxan
I would ask your gastro doctor if you can try it I cant see why it could hurt and if it works then whalaa....my sister says its the miracle she has been praying for since a small girl.
I hope it helps you.

I TO SUFFER WITH IBS, IMMODIUM DOES WORK I TOOK 9 A DAY, I FOUND IF I REALLY WATCH WHAT I EAT I CAN CONTROL MY IBS, I WENT TO A FOOD DR, MY SUGAR WAS OUT OF CONTROL, HE SAID EAT EVERY 3 HOURS SMALL PORTIONS. ALSO EAT 1 TEASPOON OF PEANUT BUTTER BEFORE BED. WHEN ANXIETY KICKS IN MY STOMACK ACID IS HIGH, PEANUT BUTTER IS A SLOW DIGESTER. REALLY WORKS. I RARELY USE IMMODIUM, WHEN MY ANXIETY KICKS IN I USUALLY TAKE 2 IMMODIUM IMMEDIATLY AND EAT A CRACKER
