Yes, I take it. I have been taking it for about 8 months now and have truely been blessed by it. I went from taking something else to Cymbalta and went from being a nervous wreck, couldn't sleep, stomach aches, headaches.....TO LITTLE OR NEXT to now depression. My depression before was a 10/10 to about a 1 or 2 of 10.

I believe it also helps for anxiety as well. I also take xanax and find it's a very good combination for both anxiety and depression.

If you start using it, be patient, and give it at least a few weeks before noticing a change in your depression.

Good luck and god bless...

Just relax and try not to get nervous about taking one.

I have in the past gotten very nervous with a med change. But, me, personally, since I have taken so many, I'm getting to the point where I don't care and I will try it regardless anyway.

I'm taking 60mg Cymbalta at bedtime?
And about xanax 0.5 in am, around 2pm, and then 1mg at bedtime?

So far they have been a great combination. I still have anxiety that is for sure.

My therapist has always told me, try to stay consistent with taking xanax. It comes and goes out of your body, I think within 4 to 6 hours. So if you are having anxiety really bad and haven't taken it, then it's too late. She has told me, if you having lot's of stress, due to work like me, then take it regularly. Basically, you want it in your system before the stress(ors) come during the day.

Have you ever been on an anti-dep? I have been on a few, I think. Most of my meds have been for more bi-polar.....wrong stuff for me since I was diagnosed with GAD.

BTW - I like your screen name: sherybery. ;)

I researched Cymbalta because of its claims to apparently reduce pain, especially in the neck and back, where I have horrible pain and have for months. But doc did not want to change me to cymbalta so I'm still on another anti-depressent. Has anyone had success with relief of neck/upperback pain, caused by stress?

From what I understand about Cymbalta is that it has attributes that help both anxiety and depression. I think it could potentially help with muscle tension indirectly because it is calming you by helping with the anxiety.

My job is the cause of 90% of my stress. But I'm "learning" to adapt. Slowly.

I have been having upper back pain in the neck and back....even right now as I'm typing this... What I have been doing is stretching and moving those areas that hurt. It has been helping me. Plus, I just started working out at a local Ymca. Trying to with the limited time I have.

So I guess I've had success by more of an exercise / stretching approach. Try it out....it's helping me.

Take care!

Familyman6-
I saw that you posted an entry a while ago regarding back pain due to stress. There is a great book called Healing Back Pain by John Sarno that I would highly recommend. It talks extensively about back/neck pain due to stress/emotional issues. My dad used to have such crippling back pain that he couldn't get out of bed for days. He read the book and now lives pain free - swears it's the best thing he's ever come across. I really suggest you check out the book. Good luck.

Hi
I have been on Cymbalta for over a year. My psych.doc put me on that because of my back and neck pain. It has really helped me with my pain as well as my depression/anxiety. I still get pain if I I don't relax my shoulders throughout the day. My chiropractor helps me too. I go there 1 time a month.

I take 60 mg. in the morning. I still don't sleep well at night. Familyman6, does this med help you at night? I also take Wellbutrin SR (100mg) in the morning.

Hi there. I take 60 mg at bedtime. Sometimes I think I don't need it but one night I fell asleep before taking it and boy could I tell the difference the next day. I was short with everyone. As for the neck and back pain -I've found my answer in Physical Therapy. I've been going for about a month now. They gave me 5 very easy exercises to do at home. (so simple they feel silly to do) When I go in for my therapy 3X a week they start with heat on the shoulder and back for 15 min. then I do 3 of my exercises, then a pulley system with weights and then they do these holds that are amazing. The headaches just disappear. I am on it for Migraine headaches & chronic daily tension headaches. My doctor's diagnosis - I don't know how to relax. (LOL) I have muscle relaxers and hydrocodone that I'd like to get off of - it hasn't happened yet but that's my goal.

I'm getting better but I get alot of stress at work - I'm in commercial lending and I am married to a wonderful husband who's job situation has changed since Katrina hit and he is now home 24/7, I also have 2 teenagers. Fun, fun, fun....

Another tip the therapists suggested - put a tennis ball in your shoulder blade and either lay on it or lean up against a wall and rub where it hurts. Another tip is to take a towel and put it across your shoulders and neck at the point where it hurts and pull forward - this aligns it again.

This has worked for me but you should check with your doctor to make sure these tips are healthy for you.

Hope my experiences have helped someone. My best resource has been a book called:
"The Relaxation Workbook" It's awesome for helping with relaxation and an excellent extra to go with Lucinda's program. Try it - it helps.
