Did you follow the program to a T?

I'm having problems following it to a T, does this matter? Especially the homework, motivation just comes and goes

I think it does matter. You have to do it the way it was designes in order to get the most benefit. The home work is very important you're not really doing the program if you don't do the homework. Just buying the program but having it sit around is not going to help you. If you're willing to spend all of that money for it , why won't you try to get the most from it?
