Hi,
I ordered for the 30-day preview, not sure I can even afford to keep the set and maybe that's part of my problem. I think I feel some pressure to finish up in a hurry. Anyway, I jumped in with the DVD, fine; then session 1 CD and I was like - whoa! How long is this thing? I listened for what seemed like forever; fell asleep; when I woke up it was still going! I never got to the end and it was like an hour later! I don't have that kind of time in my busy schedule. Add to that, the fact that I didn't really feel I was learning anything new (when I was awake, that is) and don't see how it can help. I minored in psych so I know a lot of this stuff already, it just doesn't help when I'm in the middle of the anxiety.
So now I don't think I'm going to be able to find time do this program -- it's all so overwhelming.
Question on the Program
Hmm I couldn't afford it either but I could not afford to not pay for it. I could not hold a job or drive (at night) because of my anxiety and depression. The program is really good and helps to give you the foundation to chip away at your anxiety. Sometimes situations come so fast its hard to cope and use the skills but thats the thing...its the ONLY way to deal with it. Either you deal with something your usual way or try to break the pattern and do something different. Don't waste your $$ if you feel like you know it all already and plan to sleep during the sessions!! But if you decide to focus and really try to apply the skills taught then I'm sure it'll work for you. Am I being harsh?? Do what is right for you to make positive changes in your life! Good luck

Dear DEB52:
HOW MUCH IS RECOVERY WORTH TO YOU? HOW MUCH DO YOU VALUE YOURSELF? HOW MUCH DO YOU VALUE A BETTER QUALITY OF LIFE? I ask these questions because of your statement. You said, <span class="ev_code_RED">I don't have that kind of time in my busy schedule. W/o meaning to sound harsh or disrespectful, do you hear the negativity in your own words? If you minored in "PSYCH" - then you'd know CBT is the #1 way to over come anxiety disorder. CBT is what THIS PROGRAM is base on. So, if you "know a lot of this STUFF already" how come you are not able to put the KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS into action/to use, in order to reduce or prevent heightened anxiety or a panic attack? Finally, as I'm sure you're aware - every human alive has anxiety - its a human trait. What happens w/ those of us w/ anxiety disorder - we OH NO @ the body symptoms, we fear them, over-react to them, which then exagerates them. You're right, THIS PROGRAM DOES NOTHING WHEN YOU'RE IN THE MIDDLE OF ANXIETY - esp when the knowledge & skills are not learned/understood & put to use & APPLIED. Cause I know I am 1 of many, recovered & it is this very program that has helped me IN THE MIDDLE OF ANXIETY - I apply the SKILLS everyday.
Deb, do what is best for you - whatever that may be. Just do something - recovery is not gonna just drop on your doorstep - there is no quick fix - the process is slow + methodical + repetative + time consuming. We all have the same 24 hrs in the day: many have spouses & children & homes & jobs - there really is no excuse - HOW MUCH DO YOU VALUE YOURSELF - WHAT IS RECOVERY/PEACE OF MIND & CALMNESS worth to you?
This program probably is not for you. I wish you all the best in your search for recovery.

I see what you're saying, you really have to be committed. I'm a functional general anxiety person, it doesn't stop me from living my life but makes me severely uncomfortable at times, losing sleep, etc. When I get caught up in the middle of it all, I forget to do the relaxation (I already had CD's for this and I agree it's very effective), forget to exercise, don't eat right, etc. I get somewhat depressive and when a person is depressive they don't want to do much of anything. It takes all your strength just to get through the day. I think I'm depressive right now, and I'm totally exhausted, so that's probably part of my feeling that I can't do this. I was hoping to hear from someone who felt the same way in the beginning, and then was able to make it work for them, or some advice in fitting it into your daily life. Didn't mean to make anyone feel defensive.
HI, I too seem to stay in a spin. I am already a week behind with lesson. I just do what I can do!! I haven't mastered the diet and exercise part yet either.I have found it so comforting to to finally realize that what I am feeling is anxiety and depression and hopefully not anything physical. I think just as long as you stay plugged in and do what you can do you will feel better and then want to do more.At least that's what I'm telling myself.

Deb- we want you to find the realization we've found: each of these "posters" know there is value to this program. I majored in psych but I wasn't studying to fix me. (I doubt you were either)And college degree didn't give steps of application; how to use the knowledge to change our bad habits - yet this program will guide you. Studying took time in college, right? Well, studying (practicing) to change ingrained habits will take time too. The first part of the program tries to explain why "we" are dealing with anxiety (& panic attacks) to get everyone on the "same page". We need to recognize what "we" are doing wrong (negative thinking, hi expectations...) becuz obviously "we" haven't stopped this ineffective behavior. What does it take to stop doing the same wrong thing over and over? Ooopps, I hope you are not offended that I am saying you are functioning poorly (becuz "we" want to always do everything PERFECT). Believe me I am not trying to make you feel bad!! The program is going to encourage / help you with what you do well and change what hinders. In reference to time (and $) I believe so much of our energy and TIME is wasted on anxiety; we can have more of both when we conquer what is weighing us down! If we have more energy we probably will be healthier (less med costs) and more energy may equate to more money? When I got the program I also wanted to rush thru it and return it. But the material has so much that needs to be "digested", worked thru, repeat listening, pace my "growth" (some sessions I've needed more than a week). So, I gathered my courage and I talked to my husband, who agreed to purchase, which is a blessing (and I plan to loan it to others). Before, I was anxious about pushing thru the program fast, now I am able to see what a difference without that pressure - This is an Investment (hi on the list of life). If you need it I hope you can keep it. Sincerely from another Deb
