Hi.. i posted about the excessive guilt that i am experiencing and it really has gotten worse this week with my hormones and all. I wanted to know if anyone knew about Dr. Mary Reed's approach to curing OCD naturally? (flaxid oil, exc.) My family is really anti-psychotherapy/SSRI's and I can;t afford it alone just yet..so today i went to Borders and got every single self help and CBT workbook i could find, now im wondering about this? here is the link to the website- www.ocd-free.org/home. Any insight is much appreciated. I feel like im going crazy this week. Literally im miserable and feel physically sick due to my ocd/anxiety/overwhelming guilt. Thanks again!!

I looked at the website and it is very interesting. I've always thought that some types of anxiety are caused by biological forces as opposed to psychological. I would def. look into it. I myself take a high quality multi-vitamin and fish oil supplement, exercise 3x a week, weened myself off of coffee and watch what types of food I put into my system (not to mention the asston of water I drink now..Ha) and it feels like it is starting to make a difference. (It's been about 2 months) I don't take any type of SSRI or an anti depressant, not to say I haven't tried the meds, but for me personally, I would rather take the natural approach. I think that this Mary Reed may be on to something. But to each their own, right? Just keep in mind that you are not alone. I feel exactly the same things you feel, as do the majority of the people on here, at least at some point. So keep your head up and try whatever you think will help to alleviate your symptoms. Thanks for bringing that website to my attention.

hi ineedhelpasap:

I also browsed her website- I also agree with zoomy- she seems like she understands the illness well.. considering she was also a sufferer, I have mild ocd (continues getting worse but with the program I have kicked my meds) I honestly felt worse on the meds.. not just the side effects but it made me numb to my emotion and gave me a false sense of 'having patience' I have been able to stay off the med (SSRI) thus far and have found Good days very helpful with my body..

I vote that you check into all your options, knowledge is power! keep in touch and work the program, you would be surprised how much better you feel. My compulsions are much better now that I know what they are, and I catch those terrifying thoughts before they get my body going, b.c. I understand these thoughts arent who I am.. AND I control my thoughts, they do not control me.. Please feel free to PM me if you need to vent or chat!

Best wishes always!

Props for reaching out- we are all here for you!

To I need help ASAP:
Thanks for the website. I can relate to and agree with a lot of what Zoomy said. I am currently trying pretty much the same approaches, and I have researched this subject before, natural cures for my mood swings and severe anxiety. OCD is such a complex condition, really, that a variety of approaches, both cognitive and behavioral, I think are necessary to address it.

Here's one instant, natural thing that can help when thoughts start going round and breathing gets heavy. It has helped me; it kicks your body into a naturally calmer state.

Breathe in for a count of 4.
Hold the breath for a count of 7.
Breathe out for a count of 8.

The exact length of each of these steps doesn't matter. What is important is the 4:7:8 ratio. Try it no longer than 4 times in a row initially. See if this helps. I hope it offers some relief.

I will be checking back on this subject, because OCD is very scary and troubling, and sometimes seemingly omnipresent, coming from nowhere and everywhere.

Take care. Best regards.

Thank you all so much for your help! I can always count on it. Well i've decided that tomorrow after school im going to to go the health food store and just pick up some fish oil supplements and maybe some vitamins and see if this makes a difference. if it does i may order some of the natural medicine on her site. i'll let all of you know if it works for me, maybe it can help us? we'll see :) thank you again!
