Hi all,

I've been on the road to recovery for awhile now and that is a good thing. My life has been full of trials and struggles the past 5 years. I know in the program and in Lucinda's book she talks about how even when we have excitement from good things, our body reacts to the adrenelin the very same way. My body does the same thing.

I can get excited about something new or get emotionally excited from a movie and have body symptoms. I tell myself that it's just my adrenelin- and it usually subsides in a while.

The thing is that lately there have been alot of really good things happening in my life- unbelievable things, opportunities to speak to others, etc.... and the excitement about it is almost too much for my body too handle. I have to be careful to take some time to rest and stay calm.

Does this ever get better or is my body just super sensative to stimulus. It was never that way before i had the anxiety/panic a few years ago. But since i had my nervous breakdown/serious anxiety 4 yrs ago, I am so sensative to even 'good' adrenelin.

Is there any way to get over this or help my body to get accustomed to this. Is it a medical issue?

I am very happy to have good things happening in my life- I just wish I could enjoy it a little more without suffering the body symptoms.

Thanks and blessings, Chanin

Hi-
I found that doing cardiovascular exercise really helped me with the adrenaline issues. I read somewhere where they compared your nervous system to a bucket and if you are almost full then it doesn't take much for the bucket to spill over when any little thing happens. The exercise will help you to burn off the adrenaline and actually raise the threshold that the adrenaline has to get to before it impacts you. Thus, exercise helps you to have a shallower bucket and the any little things just add a bit, not cause it to spill over.

Does that make sense? I used to exercise to want to lose weight, etc. and somewhere it morphed into doing it because it's like a big happy pill and I feel 100% better while exercising and after exercising. I know I'm a better wife and mom from doing that for me and I am better able to stay organized in my busy life.

I'm glad you are having happy things happen- and I hope they continue.

Hi Chanin,

A really exciting movie or video game can really get your adrenaline going. This, in turn, can cause all kinds of body symptoms. For me, it is playing an intense video game. I just keep remembering that it is just excitement and I take some deep breaths and take a break and calm down.

I do relaxation every day and meditation and that really helps. Deep breathing exercises also help a lot.

You are not alone. As you mentioned, many are "super sensitive" to adrenaline and resulting body issues. It is not a medical issue per se..... it is just our brain releasing neurotransmitters which can release extra adrenaline. You may, though, wish to speak to a doctor about getting something to help this. And, there are lots of natural supplements that can help as well.

Always be aware that it is only excitement..... and the brain is simply releasing chemicals in response to it. I must be "super sensitive" as well, as I get these same things all the time.

Take care,

Rob.

Thank you newrunner and Rob!

At least I know it's normal. I will try exercising first thing in the morning to see if it helps my adrenalin threshold.

Maybe in time, as I am used to exciting and good things happening, my body will adjust.

Thanks!

I have never heard of flax seed oil helping with anxiety, but I know it's healthy for you, so that is good. I think too much adrenaline could cause you to be tired all the time because you have used up all your reserves to cope with stuff. That would make me want to cry too.

Today I saw an ad for a running shoe that shows a lady running thru a shower of water. On the left before the shower are the words like doubt and stress, etc. after the shower it's clean. The tag line is about exercising washing stuff away and I totally agree.
