More good news: I am in the running for a banking position.

A friend of mine works at a national bank. Several months ago he and a branch rep who I spoke with told me the bank was hiring personal banker/account manager positions. The caveat was you had to go for Series 7 & 63 licenses, AND would have to return to the bank the training costs if you quit/leave within your first year. I especially disliked more the training cost/1 year stipulation. Between these, and wanting to get into outside sales and/or an office job, I passed on the bank. Now that I've been getting slim-to-none responses on the sales and office gigs, I contacted my friend. He recommended me to his manager. I applied online and my friend said his manager would email the local recruiter to focus on my resume. Eventually I will interview with the manager for a spot that is due to be open on 9/1 because another employee is going to a NJ branch.

Besides having a job and money, it would be cool to work with friend. He had previously worked together ten years ago. :)

Thanks man and THH.

The bank job is history. Yesterday my friend said he heard from his manager that the recruiter didn't like my resume. The recruiter says that there was a problem with the objective. My friend said that in addition to what I had, there were other words in the objective. I always personalize my objective to the company name and position. Example:

XYZ Bank Account Manager.

From what my friend was saying the objective had something like

XYZ Bank Account Manager Personal Assistant.

There IS the possibility I created this resume from another and didn't completely remove the entire old resume's objective.

Naturally when I got this call from my friend I was crestfallen. I know my mind and body, and just allowed myself to feel the disappointment and heal on its own. Was I upset with myself? Yes. Was I reading myself the Riot Act like a drill sergeant? No.

I didn't look at the bank resume until this afternoon after all the disappointment had "left." I have the resume as a Word and text documents. Neither of them have anything wrong with the objective. :?

This bank uses a 3rd party online application system where I cannot view or edit my resume.

I asked my friend today to see if he could get a copy of the email his manager got from the recruiter. I don't recall applying for a "personal assistant" job. :?

Something else: When my friend called yesterday he also added some news his branch got just that afternoon. The District Sales Manager said he/she had someone in mind for the spot I was applying for.

So it seems that even if the resume wasn't an issue I would not have gotten to work with my friend at his branch.

Lord, this is a such a soap opera. Let's call it As The Stomach Turns. :D

The kid's been down but not out! ;)

I am like a Spalding tennis ball, I keep bouncing back!

I will have an interview either Monday or Tuesday with a well known 90 year old comapny! I saw an ad for a sales gig in NYC with them on Careerbuilder last night, applied online, and called my contacts. I had met two HR managers back in March at the sales fair. One of them called me back this morning and is going to get me in for either Monday or Tuesday.
