Prozac and insomnia ??

Hi i have been on prozac now for 3 1/2 weeks but just upped to 20mgs last week. Now I am have insomnia real bad cant sleep and if i do fall alseep i wake up a lot throught out the night. Is this normal side effect if so how lng does it last?? I take my prozac when i wake up and even take ativan at night but still cant seem to sleep more than 3- 4 hours. I am even running to tire me out. I am so tired and work 50 hrs a week called my dr no call back yet though any prozac experiance would be appreciated thanks

I did have that experience w/ Effexor, which is for the same purpose, and it was awful. It took about 8 to 10 weeks before it finally went away and now I sleep like a baby. I too tried exercise at the time but it didnt work. But I hung in there and made it through. Of course, if the lack of sleep is too overwhelming I'd definitely suggest another pill. But as far as I know, for all of these types of meds, that symptom does usually go away. Good luck!
