So I've made my first appt to see a psychologist. It took half a day for me to work up the courage but I did it.

What can I expect? I'm scared they're going to make all these judgements and that it all confirms my biggest fears.

What will they ask me about? What kind of questions can I expect?

Well congratulations on that step. I am in the process of doing the same. I wish you the best of luck in your journey.

The best advice I can give is to be totally upfront and honest about your symptoms, triggers, past experiences, etc. You can't get help unless the other party is totally aware of what you are going through. Seeing a psych is an exercise in trust.

Thanks Tracy and JT. I was really nervous before going - thinking that I was just being weak and that they couldn't help me.

I was wrong - she listened, and I didn't feel judged. I've had really repetitive, intrusive thoughts about breaking up with my boyfriend and she said I'm exhibiting symptoms of ocd.

I'm still scared and worried, and I don't know if that is the answer but it feels good to have taken a step to resolve my anxiety.

There is NO weakness in seeking help for a problem. Recognizing you have an issue and want to correct it is mature of you. I personally see both a college counselor and a psychiatrist. I find that both help me to gain perspective on things.
