Hi Lynsey
me too...I have watery eyes also. It happens when I am a bit anxious, like wondering what someone thinks of me while I am talking to them. It also happens when I am just talking to family or friends. I have seen an eye specialist about it, but he was no help at all. On looking back, I think it first happened about 14 years ago, when I had a very superior boss, who made me feel very inadequate even though I knew I was doing a good job, he just liked to lord it over me. And also at the time there were issues with a family member, so I think it somehow started from there. It is very embarrasing when talking to someone and the eyes cloud up! I feel like shrivelling up. I am thinking I may become a house hermit as it really gets me down. Is it just rheumy eyes? I think it must be more than that. I too wish someone would come up with something to cure it. regards, Pam.

It happens to me when I'm about to get into a fight or a big argument. Which is embarrassing cause it looks like I'm crying, but really I'm just extremely pissed off or stressed out.

i noticed this happens to me the past two years. i start out okay, but then tears just drip from my eyes and sometimes i don't really even notice until they are dripping off my chin. happens especially when i talk to one-on-one to superiors (ie profs at my college--even the ones that are not too intimidating). haven't found anything to help, although wearing my glasses helps to cover it up a bit, i think.

I tear up easily ... and feel a surge of emotion over the silliest things, but what you are describing sounds just like what my mom has been dealing with for the past five or six years. She noticed it when she began taking chemo treatments for her cancer. We just attributed it to being a side effect from the chemo. However, the disturbing thing is that the watery eyes continue even though she has long since finished the treatments. I can't wait to see her and talk to her about this! she has talked with her doctor about this many times, but nothing has been done to correct it. I believe my mom suffers from anxiety and depression even more than I do. It's all beginning to make sense to me now. Thank you so much for starting this discussion!

I finally found people with the same thing. My eyes water at the drop of a hat. I don't necessarily feel stress but it's emotionally triggered somehow. If I wathc a tear-jerker movie - stand back cuz your gonna get soaked. If I do any personal reflection about myself or others - gusher. I wanted to be a teacher at one time but thankfully I didn't go into it because if I interact with someone at that level I tear up. I cannot talk to my boss at work without tearing up. I just say it's the fluorescent lights. It's very disturbing. This must be the same thing as someone with a nervous tic. I can control it like some of you with very slow, deliberate deep breaths (most of the time). Another odd way to control it is to drink alcohol - I tear up less frequently and less severely if I've had a couple of drinks. But, unfortunately, I can't live my life with a buzz going on.

I also get watery eyese VERY easily. I never even thought to associate it w/this, but that makes total sense. I just thought it was a "odd" thing I had :)

Great relief to read of others' similar experiences. I wonder if I have some underlying sadness that causes my eyes to readily water up!! But it is also the cold and sometimes bright sun and dust! Now I am wondering if too much red wine is aggravating them! Normally I shy away from any mention of products but Zaditen drops do inhibit my tears.

I have been suffering from a watery left eye, and sometimes right eye, since January 2007. I remember when it happened, and going to the Dr for weeks trying to get my eyes to literally stop draining. I am now starting to think it's related to stress, and I appreciate reading the comments in this blog. It stinks, and I guess I'll try deep breathing and relaxation to clam these eyes down. I can hardly stand the sore eyes, watering, which makes my skin around my eyes sore, and also folks asking me what's up with my eyes. I can no longer wear contacts because of this water eye condition.
