One More Step
Jamie,
Hang in there! Remember, this crap ALWAYS passes.... ALWAYS. Sometimes it takes longer than others but, eventually, the sun comes out.
You have done a great thing by starting this thread. I have remarked to myself several times how caring you are. You have taken the time to personally answer every single person that has posted on here. That takes time, consideration, compassion, and a giving spirit.
No matter where you are right now, I, for one would like to tell you how much you have helped me by your example. You had the courage to step up in this very public place and share your personal history as well as bravely say, "These are my goals" And publicly share every step of the journey.
Seriously, w/o this post I probably would not have gone to the doctor today. But, I did... and now I have to have some tests but I am going to have them and deal with whatever comes down the pike. And I will do it with YOU in mind! ha!

Focus on what you want, not what you fear...
Jamie,
You are a terrific person and don't you ever forget it. Don't ever let fear overwhelm you to that point--always remember and tell yourself how strong you are. You have what it takes!! I second everything positive that has been said about you. You had a great idea to start this thread and you will overcome this garbage because you are smart, resourceful and determined.
Your friend, Carleen

I'm glad to see this thread is still rockin' !
I'm still having a problem with the salt thing. I have no problem at all with getting rid of caffeine and excess sugar, but this salt thing is killing me ! I knew this would be a tough one. According to my scale, I've lost 5 lbs so far. I'm surprised in a way because of the water that I'm sure I'm hanging on to from the excess salt. I'm going to start to write down everything I eat so I can keep track of how much salt I'm taking in. It's probably way more then I think. Processed foods are full of it !
I'm still drinking a ton of water. I still haven't been doing the riverwalk either. I have a 3 day weekend this weekend so now is the best time to kick the exercise in. No more excuses. I want most of my weight off by Christmas. That's 6 months. No more goofing off. I'm stronger than this salt stuff. .......maybe I should turn off the Food Network.......
I'm glad to see that everyone is taking steps to improve.
SeaRunner......you're the one that started this thread. If you need to vent, type away (although I'm not one to talk. It's been a few days since I last checked in.)
Tomorrow I will start the riverwalk again. I want to hear some cheering and motivation !!!!LOL

HotRod, SamCat, and ManOfMusic -
Thank you for all of your support and the very gracious things you had to say. I really appreciate it. Things are starting to improve for me just as you've said they will. I know that we all go through these down times and have to recognize that they are temporary and are able to be overcome. Perhaps my body and mind just needed a rest and were giving me a signal to slow down for a moment...at least that's what I'd like to think!
You all have been a source of inspiration for me as well. I get as much out of this thread as everyone else. Thanks for keeping me on track.
HotRod - I'm so glad you're doing so well and that this thread has been so helpful. I've been wanting to congratulate you on your vacation but have been in my own little world lately so I apologize for not saying something sooner. That's a huge achievement. Your success with your doctor appointment is also great news. You're doing so great!
SamCat - I'll make a note of it, but it's always so nice to hear it from someone else.
I can say much the same for all of you as well. We keep good company!
ManOfMusic - Venting in progress. As for you, good job keeping up with the salt even though it's been tough. The fact is you're still working on it and haven't given up. With your success with caffeine and sugar, I'm certain you can beat your salt intake too. Remember, it doesn't have to be all or nothing; just reducing your intake is progress too. Good luck with the walking. Your body will thank you (although it will probably protest at first)!
So my goal for the upcoming days is to give myself some leeway and restart my engines. I need to regroup and develop a new plan of attack. It will likely be much of the same work, I just need to watch more closely for signs of burn out. Too often I forget to leave time for enjoyable stuff. But I guess that's a luxury we can't really do without.
Suiting up again,
Jamie

You have come so far in that you kept trying even though you were having panic don't let this set back keep you back, rest a while and readjust have another battle stradegy the worst thing a person can do is give up I know I have done it so many times I had gotten so far with going places I even felt like I was almost well then started to town I hadn't been to in maybe 20 yrs was having anxiety the level was staying at maybe a 7 not progressing but not slowing down either the closer I got to the town the more I told myself I better go back bad thought any finaly had my hubby turn around against his will and judgment bad ideal I must say bacause after that I beat myself up for days worst anxiety and quit going anywhere for yrs I feel like if I had not turned around and went on in that I was half way there,It made me worst because I allowed it now I am trying to get back where I was I haven't got on the road by myself yet funny how you don't seem to have time or just isn't happening I think I am avoiding but I'm going to keep on till I try any way.

See Forever Young ! You have a reason to make that trip. You don't want to miss out on seeing your family. You can do it ! Are you the one doing the driving or are you the passanger ?
I didn't go for my riverwalk yesterday, but I got a ton of work done outside. I think I got a better workout doing that. Before I go to work on Monday, I will do the riverwalk.
I still have the mug of ice water beside me !
Time for a refill.
Hot Rod - ! Congratulations on going to the doctor ! Whatever the results may be, go in and get them. It's only the unknown that can be scary. That reminds me. I need to make an appointment for myself.......
Searunner - ! The good thing about all of this is that every morning is a clean slate. Time to start fresh. Time to suit up and take off running.

Sorry searunner, i had posted a long message and then my computer closed the program on me without warning and i got really angry and frustrated so i hadn't reposted cuz i was too angry
This is the thread on digestion i was talking about
http://bbs.stresscenter.com/ev...241055074#2241055074
Also one thing in the program it mentions to eat light foods, this is important because with the stress response our digestive system is suppressed along with the immune system. Well realistically it suppresses the functioning of all the organs since the body is focusing the blood more on the muscles we need to run or fight with as opposed to the organs. Either way digestion is weaker and so it is harder for us to digest food which makes us feel heavy and that makes us feel weak and tired.
Heavy foods are things such as; Milk, Cheese, Yogurt, Beef. Some might classify eggs and deepfried foods heavy too but in my experience they don't leave me feeling the same as the first 4 things i mentioned. After cutting out the dairy i actually did feel alot better but if i have something with cheese in it, i'm usually feeling tired and drain for a period of 1 day up to a week and a half. Our body also has a harder time getting rid of mucous when we are really struggling with the anxiety and dairy is one of the biggest contributers to that lovely goo.

Thanks for the support. I know I just have to let go of what has happened and just move forward from today each and every day. I spend way too much time focusing on what has been and what might come.
Speaking of focusing on what has been, my advice to you is not to worry about whether you made the right decision about your drive so many years ago. Who knows if that was the trigger or just coincidentally the location where your anxiety happened to peak. There's not point in second guessing ourselves about things like that. It's too easy to get preoccupied with the past and forget to move on.
Your goal sounds great and from your later posts it sounds like you were able to accomplish it. Great job! Family is a super motivator. Use whatever you can to get yourself out there and facing down anxiety.

I sympathize with your computer crashing before you could post. I've had that happen enough times that now if I'm going to post a long message I write it up in a word processor first and then paste the text in. It's a bit of a pain but sure beat retyping!
The digestion post your included had a lot of interesting ideas. I'm not very informed about eastern medicine but have had a little exposure when I was doing acupuncture. I didn't know about the link between the lungs and large intestine but it certainly seems to make sense. I'll be honest that I certainly take in more "toxins" than I ought to, just out of convenience. Plus I drink entirely too much diet soda which has all those artificial sweeteners. I can only imagine what they are doing to me.
As for you quick list, I don't drink milk (lactose intolerance) and eat beef only occasionally. I do eat quite a bit of low fat yogurt and low fat cottage cheese. The protein in combination with the small amount a fat seems to keep my hunger down. In general I don't eat many "heavy" things with a lot of fat since they don't agree with my system. That being said, there's still much I can do to improve my diet.
