A couple days ago I had the worst panic attack of my life. I was on vacation in a hotel room when all of a sudden my vision went grainy, my heart started pounding and my arms went numb. It almost felt like my vision was leaving me in a sense. Ever since the attack i've been getting that same feeling every 15-20 min. Also have this weird pressure in my head that I can't really feel. Hard to explain. Just being awake feeling this way makes me nauseous. Leading up to the attack I lost my appetite a day or two before and had some extreme nausea. I still have that also and haven't hardly eaten anything in 5 days. Please help with reassurance anyway you can.

Hi KellyZ,

Have you ever had this happen before? Have you been checked out by a doctor? I think it would be good to get checked to make sure it was a panic attack.

I can tell you that I have also had my vision do weird things and had numbness, dizziness, and lots of other symptoms during a panic attack. Somewhere on here there is a list of different symptoms, I think it is called "what panic can do to us" or something like that. It is good to look through to help you know what may be panic and what is not. Take care.

dont get checked by a doctor, dont worry. its ok. everyones symptoms are different, and some are very strange.
my strangest symptom during anxiety, my jaws almost lock up and get sore. i think i clinch them soo tight without knowing it so when anxiety passes my jaw feels like it ran a marathon.
and my vision gets very blurry too.

nothing is wrong with you. you are 100% healthy

I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to see your doctor. While Curtsl7 is probably right that you are just fine, it's still nice to rule out that there's nothing wrong. It just reinforces that you have nothing to worry about.

Based on what you are describing, I would ask about the possibility of ocular migraines. These are migraine headaches that are preceded by visual changes that can vary quite a bit from person to person. I've heard someone else describe the same type of visual symptom as you that suffers from them. I get them as well but have a different visual symptom where I lose a portion of my vision for about 30 to 60 minutes prior to the migraine.

And for me, the migraine isn't really all that painful. It just feels like a regular headache. I find if I just lay down and relax when it starts coming on that things just pass after a couple hours. I don't know if this is the same thing for you but like I said it never hurts to check things out.

One way to test if it's just anxiety is to see if the symptoms GO AWAY as soon as you are with your Safe person or your Safe Place. If so it's a possibility it's just panic. BUT...if it's something you've never had happen to you and it's not going away even if you feel "safe" it couldn't hurt to call your Doc and tell them the symptoms and see what they think? That's what I have done with my Doc I call and see if they think it sounds ER worthy.

I ended up going to the emergency room shortly after I wrote yestedays post. Explained to them everything that was going on. They did and exam and took some blood tests. Which everything was normal. They also gave me an ativan through IV and that pretty much knocked me out for a couple hours. I really wanted an MRI, but they didn't feel it was neccessary. I still can't helpt to think that it must be a brain tumor because I've never experienced anything like this. I did have a brain MRI without & with contrast about a year and a half ago that came back normal. Still wake up in the morning with a pounding heart, pins and needles in hands and have a constant dry mouth. No appetite all day. I don't know if the anxiety is causing the vision issues or the vision issues are causing the anxiety. The horrible fear I feel from the panic on top of that is unbearable.
