I finished the Stress program last June and I can't say enough what a huge help it has been, but a month ago I was diagnosed with gluten sensitivity and I have been reading about it and apparently my anxiety seems to be physical due to gluten sensitivity. It was actually thanks to a book that someone one recommended on this web site that ended in my diagnosis. I wonder, do you handle anxiety that has medical causes differently? I also wonder how many people with anxiety don't know they have gluten intolerance.
For the past month I cut out gluten entirely from my diet and I feel much better, much less anxious, yet the anxiety is not entirely gone.
I thought I would post this in case anyone else was interested or struggling with the connection between gluten intolerance and anxiety.
Also, for women apparently polycystic ovary syndrome causes anxiety as well.
Celiac Disease, Gluten Sensitivity and Anxiety
I had a follow-up visit at an environmental medicine clinic (for multiple chemical sensitivities) a few weeks ago. They suggested that I read the book, "The Gluten Connection", by Shari Lieberman. That book has me wondering whether I've got gluten sensitivity, since the condition can be behind a number of other conditions, among them: osteoporosis (I've got osteopenia, a.k.a. pre-osteoporosis); osteoarthritis (which I have in my kenes); and vitamin D malabsorption (which I have reason to suspect that I have).
So I'm trying to watch the gluten. It's early days yet to say whether it's making a difference, but it's worth a try. In addition, I'm trying to incorporate eating plans from "The Raw Food Detox Diet", by Natalia Rose. It's quite a juggling act.
Of course I've left a message for my regular doctor re: whether I was ever tested for glutin sensitivity. I haven't gotten an answer yet.
