Although I agree for the most part about a chemical imbalance being a bill of goods for those who do not suffer bi-polar disorder. That last sentence in your reply makes no sense to me?

I've been on tons of meds for different reasons. And yes, they can turn into horror stories. My doctor put me on geodone and I turned into a wild junkie lookin man with trembling arms and restless body. It was bad. Also abilify made me feel God awful. Had an inner urge to move constantly. Could not relax or be still. These aren't really anxiety meds, though. Only thing for anxiety is like xanex, and it is an awful drug. Me and my friends used to do them for recreation, and it turns you into a monster. It's highly addictive, and you won't think so at first, but you slowly become dependent. That's really with any type of meds.

I have the trembling problem because my progesterone hormone levels dropped to 0. Now I take progesterone therapy. The tremble/anxiousness goes away when I take it.

Hi Rixa,
I am also on celexa and am feeling the same way you did. i have tried to wean off of it a couple of times but find it really hard. did you have any side effects or withdrawal effects when you were coming off the celexa? how are you doing now?

I personally feel that doctors just perscribe anti-depressants to make more money and really don't care if they actually help.

I was on celexa first and then effexor, yea it helped me initially and I felt better for a while then it got worse, then it got better, and I got sick of that roller coaster so I quit taking meds a year ago.

Since then I have been a lot better thatn I ever was on anti-depressants. Yea I still get stressed and anxiety kicks in, the trick is learning how to handle it. If ya know how your body and mind reacts to stress and anxiety then ya can start experimenting with ways to help it. The program really helped me a lot with learning how to do that.

You have to wean very slowly. I started weaning off in January and did not get off completely until the beginning of May. The longer you have been on it the harder it is to get off of them. I had been on one for 15 years. And the withdrawal side effects are not pleasant. I had a lot of brain zaps. That's what I called them. If you've had one you'll know what I mean. But those are all gone now...but it took about a month after I stopped taking even the lowest dosage.
Doctor's don't monitor the antidepressants very well at all. If you say one doesn't work they just hand you another one and another one and another one. I finally said enough is enough!!

I've always been afraid of taking med's also. But I have to admit, if they help you in particular than take them! It's never an easy decision, I'm fighting the decision right now. It's very difficult :(

Excellent advice. I would also add that you need coping skills like CBT etc before tarting to wean off if you want to stay off long term.
