....also known as Rivotril or Klonopin...the anti-convulsant.
I am about to take my firt Gaba capsule and am feeling a bit nervous about it. (typically me, of course.) I am excited about trying this, along with L-Theanine.....yet, i am concerned about possible wierd effects, because i have been taking the smallest amount of Rivotril.....for about 20 yrs.now! It hardly helps panic but i won't be going off it...due to the valium withdrawal i went through way back in 1979/80....I'm unwilling to go through anything similar again. So ~ my question is....has anyone here taken GABA along with clonazepam? the capsules i have are 500mg.each and i know i can simply take half...to begin with. I was just NOW about to do this and i scared myself. So, thought i'd come here and ask around.
Thank's for your time.....Perhaps i ought to post this in the Medication folder. Okey dokey, love to all,
Lindaloo
One more question about GABA, has anyone taken it with Clonazepam....
I took clonazepam ( ATIVAN) long ago off and on ( one presciption) over the course of 6 weeks and I took it differently than my doctor told me to take it. I knew how addictive this medication was and I was fearful of this and therefore I took it only "as needed" instead of 3 per day as directed.
If you check that website for drug interactions you will see that it can cause drowsiness when GABA is taken at the same time as Clonazepam. It's best not to take them both at the same time. Instead one in the morning and one at night is best. You can verify this with your pharmacist/doctor for your own benefit.
GABA doesn't make you feel wierd at all...if you begin to feel strange then it will be your own anxiety producing it. GABA is a natural occurring amino acid found in specific foods.
GABA is part of your body already. I shouldn't think you would feel anything at all but a calming effect. L-Theanine is wonderful. I have taken this on occassion "as needed" and I believe this works better than the GABA myself.
I encourage you to take small steps, especially if you are nervous or freaking yourself out over it.

Hi again!
Thank's so much Susan.
I believe the name for Ativan is 'Lorazepam', right? I do know that Clonazepam is Rivotril...the anti-convulsant i've taken for so long...0.5mg.
Ya ~ i always knew that ativan was addictive, but didn't know the same of the rivotil. Anyway, all that is in the past. And so ~ thank's for the link. I actually did check out that website you had advised me to have a look at last week and saw the report on combining Gaba with Clonazepam: may cause excessive drowsiness when taken together...caution,etc... That's what concerned me. I took it to mean "don't take them both". I hadn't thought of it to mean, take one in the a.m. and the other in the p.m. (not together). So, i'll try it that way........ You know, if i didn't have the two bottles of GABA sitting here, i would have tried the L-Theanine first....as you say it's perhaps more effective. I've heard this elsewhere too. I am unable to obtain the L-Theanine combination that you have, as they won't send any into Canada. (I emailed the website you bought it from). Only THEY make that specific formula. And so i'll have to purchase just plain L-Theanine, some L-glutamine and some glucine...all separately. (if i can afford it!
So, i'll let you know what happens with me. I'm making such a deal over nothing, i know!
Okay, off to sleep. It's after 1:00 a.m. here in Toronto, Canada....and the heat is melting me...........tomorrow it begins ~ the first Smog and Pollution/Heat Warning. This city has had the worst summer weather these past few yrs. I wish so much that i could be out of here....by the water somewhere, anywhere! Maybe soon.
Until later,
thank's again!
Linda

Oh yes Linda, I am sorry... I had the names mixed up... but for the most part they are both in the same class of drugs. I would assume the cautions would be similar but you can always check with your doctor/pharmacist.
I don't have a combination GABA, L-Theanine mix (?) I purchased my L-Theanine separate from my GABA. The GABA that I used had other amino acids in it like glycine and perhaps some B6 vitamin. I did take something called "Anxiety Control" a while back that had GABA, Passion Flower, B6, Glutamine and Glycine but I didn't care much for the herb Passion Flower. Passion Flower is also anti-anxiety but I found it was giving my headaches. So I opted to take GABA alone without herbs. For me, this was more beneficial.
Whatever you choose to do, you need to do what's best for you. We are all different and have different needs. Although these supplements do help a great deal with symptoms, the only way to overcome panic is to learn to not fear the symptoms anymore.
I wish you the best Linda!

I have taken Clonazepam in the past. But, I got myself off of it as soon as I could. To me, it made me too sleepy and that is all I wanted to do. So, yes, I had no panic attacks because I was to sleepy to do so. The medicine is like a sedative. However, it is not putting an end to the panic attacks. It took me about 6 weeks to come completely off of it because you do have to be weaned off of it. Trust me, it is not a good medicine to take. I am believing that this program will help me.
