One quick note for those of you afraid of getting your heart rate too high: when you exercise, your heart rate is supposed to go up. You're body is just doing what it is supposed to to do. It's just the mechanism that your body uses to get more oxygen to the muscles you are using to resupply them with fuel. When you think of it that way, it doesn't seem nearly as scary.

One other thing: the generally accepted way of calculating your maximum heart rate is to take the number 220 and subtract your age. So if you're 40 years old, take 40 from 220 to get a maximum heart rate of 180 beats per minute. Obviously this is just a rule a thumb and you should always check with your doctor before starting a new exercise program, but it gives you a good sense of how much is too much.

Wow SeaRunner!
I did that calculation and I got 186! So that means my heart can get to 186bpm and that is considered normal for my age? Wow! Okay, that helps. I can stop freaking out when it is 135,150 etc! Thanks for that. I had heard of that calculation but could not remember what it was. Thanks!

I started running about 2 miles now since last week.. It does help a lot, after exercise I feel panic free, and I really like that if only for that brief moment... eventually will be every moment... But it is a start... changing eating habits as well and training myself to sleep as well... I just realize how messed to my life was that brought me tho this state of mind... Keep up the had work, at the end it always pays off, I've been there, done that, and it is a great feeling!!! peace

I almost always think I'm going to have a stroke when exercising. I still excercise, but it's scary :)

Well, you all have encouraged me to go ahead and workout. I have heard more people say that they feel better and notice less anxiety after walking or working out.I have actually never heard anyone say the opposite. I will give it another try. :)
I am glad I came to this forum.
Have a wonderful weekend all!
