I just had a talk with a friend who studies medication and has been helping people and taking his grandmother to the right doctors after so many wrong diagnoses.
I asked about Ativan and now i don't think i will ever take this pill.
This is the 2nd time i've heard about this pill it is supose to slow the heart down for people who are having heartattacks or almost on their deathbed. I've heard it is the other way around this medicine is way stronger than Xanax. Its more harmful as well and could cause problems.
I'm extremely angry right now because first of all i think alot of my doctors i've went to are liars and want to just push me away. I have no clue why they wont give the damn xanax and give me this sh*t when i'm hearing alot of bad stuff about it. Maybe its some kind of deal with the company.
I was about to take this pill last night i'm so glad i didn't. I am so sick of doctors ... i know what worked for me and what didn't i know xanax did and all of these bad rumors of ativan and why doctors just give this crap out pisses me off. I dont know what to think of it.
I've been struggling with pills alot my body can't function without something to calm it down. And yeah my only option would be the damn ativan.

Hey Lostgirl,
I don't know about the information you've gotten on Ativan. I know that they had my mom on it for awhile while she was battling cancer to help her with anxiety. Also, my dad was on it for the same thing while my mom had cancer. It helped them both and they never had any problems getting of it or while being on it. Hope that helps you, if you aren't given another option. You can always break the pill into a small portion and see how you do. Best to you.

I'm afraid to take it since people keep tellng me its a bad pill and will cause more problems and isn't ment for anxiety, This is the 3rd time someone has come up to me telling me its bad and not to take it i keep getting warnings about Ativan and some people said i would be better off trying to get the xanax.
Xanax has helped me get over my panic disorder and even handle antidepressant side effects but no doctor around here will give it out. I'm upset from that so much beyond anything.
I cannot stand doctors because i keep having to go to different ones and not one gives me xanax or any anxiety medicine they just put antidepressants in my face and when i try the antidepressants i cant handle the side effects i go into extreme shakes that i can't control.

Hello Girl
Sorry this whole xanax stuff is stressing you out so bad. A while back Shifra and I were talking about stress and anxiety and she mentioned an all natural supplement called
"Happy Camper".She tried it and liked it alot. I am going to see if I can take it with my antidepressants. But everything I read on it sounded good. I am sure if you went to a Vitamin store and asked for an herbal subsitute for xanax they may be able to help you. Everything we put in your mouths has potential to be dangerous in large amounts. Like Salt even or animal fat or sugar etc etc. I think if your Doc thought the tiny tiny amount of ativan could help then I'd trust them and try it. You can always half it and try it on a day when you are feeling pretty good and chilling at home with nothing else to do for the day so you can try it out at home with no worries. I will be praying you find something.Look into the Happy Camper stuff . I hear really good things about it.
Take care

Ativan is an addictive drug so shouldn't be taken every day; however, it works within 15 minutes if I am having a sever anxiety attack. The reason I am in the program is that I don't believe in drugs, and if your knew how caustic the chemicals that are put into the drugs were, you most likely wouldn't take them. My oldest son works in an industry that makes heat exchangers for the drug companies, and he said that they have to use exotic metals because the chemicals they use will eat through stainless steel, and then they want us to put them in our body. A natural help is the amino acid L-tryptophan which is in a high-carbohydrate-based diet of quality whole foods. This infromation is found in "Healing with Whole Foods" Asia Tridition and Modern Nutrition by Paul Pitchford. Other help can be found on VSH (vegeterian Society of Hawaii) My problem is the taste buds in my mouth over ride my brain which says don't eat it and the taste buds say even though it isn't good for you it taste soooo good.

Hey Lostgirl,
Here is an excellent link that will help you understand the different anti-anxiety meds and how they compare.
Viejo70 is right in that your body can build up a tolerance to them and you will have to take more to get the same effect. I take xanax and have for over 10 years. I've never tried Ativan but I think they pretty much work the same way. Here is the link: http://www.benzo.org.uk/manual/bzcha02.htm
I've tried different natural things with mixed results. Some have helped. Others have put me in the hospital as herbs can be just as toxic as synthetic meds. I took one once, at my drs advice, and my heart raced to the point I had to go to the ER. It ended up that the natural supplement had things in it that conflicted with my body. I never took it again and I am very cautious about taking anything new - including natural supplements. I hope the link helps. It was written by a lady who had a clinic that helped people get off of anti-anxiety meds. It is good that you do research and just don't take whatever but you can over research too. That has been my weakness. I have researched stuff til my head is spinning with all the information! Wish you the best. I hope you can find a dr. to give you the xanax as if it helps for a time, it is worth it.

Yes everything you put into your body has the potential to do harm. Not all of the natural herb producers are doing a good job of maintaining quality control, so you must only purchase from known companies. Also remember that each person is different so what works for one may not work for another. I buy health books and read studies, but just remember there are snake oil Doctors still out there so don't just read one book or read one research, read more and then decide which one makes the most sence and does't have a dollar tied to it.
Hello Girl
Just wanted to clarify something about what I posted. I think if you get an idea about some herbal supplements from a vitamin store that might be a good replacement for your Xanax that you can then take the list of ingredients to your pharmacist and see if they are okay and will not have a negative interaction with your other meds. I didn't meaan it to sound like your local vitamin selling person should be your new health advisor haha not by a long shot. But rather just to shop around and see what's out there and ask questions. Kudos to you for seeking and asking and looking around for help. As overwhelmed as you feel that tells me you are showing some TLC for yourself and that you aren't going to settle for second rate and you want to feel good again. Hang in there and I will keep praying things really turn the corner for the good for you !
Take care,

I can really sympathize with you regarding the fear of taking medications. Honestly, if you read the warnings on nearly every medication, you'd think that they all could kill you. But the truth is that for the most part, medications are relatively safe if taken properly and under the supervision of a qualified physician.
I've tried many medications over the years for my anxiety, panic, and depression with little luck. I often have either bad side effects or no effect whatsoever. So when I do try a new medication, I try it in very small doses. That way I know that any side effect will be much more mild and that it will be out of my system faster.
The reason I am telling you this is that because there are a few meds out there that do help me, even if they only cut down my anxiety by a third or half. I know you're scared, but consider trying this medication. It sounds like your doctor thinks this is the best medication for you and that it may help you better deal with your anxiety.
Again, consider trying just a small amount. I don't know what the pill looks like, but you can often get a pill cut down to a quarter or an eighth if you try hard enough. Keep in mind that you probably won't get much benefit from such a small amount, but at least you'll get a feel for what side effects you might have if any. The trick is to make sure that you don't inadvertently "create" side effects because you're nervous. This is one of my biggest problems.
You certainly don't need to follow my advice or anyone else's for that matter. If you just don't think you can do it, then don't. It's not worth creating so much anxiety from something that's supposed to reduce it. You are in the best position to make this decision.
Good luck and don't give up.
