I had a good day with my grand baby she is a doll but we had some storm warnings ans my daughters basement has no windows and no outside door from the basement and I am clastrophobic so I don;t like to go down there even when my daughter is home so I am hoping there won't be a torando waring because I would have to take the baby and go to the basement thankfully I didn't have to

good morning kids!!!!!!
i had a good week - hope everyone else did too. work was work LOL it was slamming and will be for a while now. yesterday i went to a friend's retirement at the museum - it was lovely. i will miss her but i'm so glad she's leaving. she's been with the school district for well over 30 years and now it's her time to go play. good for her!!!! she deserves all that is good.
yesterday we got a taste of the summer that is to come. it was hot and hazy - not a breath of a breeze - and it's only mid-may.
this morning it is beautiful and sunny. it's going to be hot and i'm going to be outside by the pool - reading and sunning. and i will go swimming. it will be the first time this year and i'm both looking forward to and dreading that first dive into the water. since the nights still tend to get cool, the water is not warm LOL
first up on today's agenda is to wade through this bedroom and clear out the clutter of the week. i never hang anything back up in the closet - hence clothes are everywhere LOL then i'll tackle the kitchen. from there it's the front bedroom - maybe. it won't take that long - it's just boring - yes that's the word LOL
may 21st and 24th are furlough days - meaning i'm going to have a 4 day weekend next week - yayyyy. i can't wait. i don't even care that they're unpaid days. it's fun time for me.
i WILL be back checking up on my friends so everybody write away. let's all make it a fun filled weekend!

Five Minutes to Happiness
A Reason to Smile
Devoting time each day for happiness will change your day and change your brain chemistry.
It can be so easy to get caught up in the rigors of modern life that we tend to forget that happiness need not come with stipulations. Happiness becomes something we must schedule and strive for—a hard-won emotion—and then only when we have no worries to occupy our thoughts. In reality, overwhelming joy is not the exclusive province of those with unlimited time and no troubles to speak of. Many of the happiest people on earth are also those coping with the most serious challenges. They have learned to make time for those simple yet superb pleasures that can be enjoyed quickly and easily. Cultivating a happy heart takes no more than five minutes. The resultant delight will be neither complex nor complicated, but it will be profound and will serve as a reminder that there is always a reason to smile.
So much that is ecstasy-inducing can be accomplished in five minutes. Alone, we can enjoy an aromatic cup of our favorite tea, take a stroll through the garden we have created, write about the day's events in a journal, doodle while daydreaming, or breathe deeply while we listen to the silence around us. In the company of a good friend or treasured relative, we can share a few silly jokes, enjoy a waltz around the room, play a fast-paced hand of cards, or reconnect through lighthearted conversation. The key is to first identify what makes us dizzyingly happy. If we do only what we believe should bring us contentment, our five minutes will not be particularly satisfying. When we allow ourselves the freedom to do whatever brings us pleasure, five minutes out of 14 wakeful hours can brighten our lives immeasurably.
It is often when we have the least free time or energy to devote to joy that we need to unwind and enjoy ourselves the most. Making happiness a priority will help you find five minutes every day to indulge in the things that inspire elation within you. Eventually, your happiness breaks will become an established part of your routine. If you start by pursuing activities you already enjoy and then gradually think up new and different ways to fill your daily five minutes of happiness, you will never be without something to smile about.

Hey Everyone !
Karma - type in the link to the Daily Om. It sounds kind of neat ! Can't get enough of the positive stuff.
Had an awesome weekend. I dug out a garden that's 2 1/2 feet wide that goes along the entire back fence (about 50 ft). I went to the country and picked out some stuff but then decided on roses. Yellow, a yellow-orange-red swirl and a deep red rose. They're the ones that get a ton of blooms on them. I got them all planted. Now all I need is a truck load of mulch to top it up. I loaded the truck up with the sod I dug out and took that to the landfill. I think I loaded the truck too much because the truck was dragging a bit ! LOL
Then I came home and dug out a rectangular area by the back door. (About 8 ft across and 6 ft wide). I went to Home Depot to price pavers. They have ones that are 8" X 8" x 2" high. I'm going to get those. I need a lot of screening first to level off where the pavers are going to go. I'm going to put a narrow garden around this new area and mulch it too. I can't wait to get this done. I'm still sore today. I took a second trip to the dump with the sod that was near the back door. I swore I could hear my truck grunting as I tossed the sod on the back of it and I swore I could hear a deep sigh when I took it off at the dump !
I didn't need to go for the river walk at all ! LOL
Today was a good day at work. I made a mistake about a week ago and it was caught today. The boss was kind of grumpy about it and asked whose fault it was. Right away I said "It's my fault. I'm getting a drawing together to fix it." He didn't say anything more after that. A few minutes later he started joking around like nothing happened. I'm realizing now that I don't need to be so tough on myself when a mistake happens. I'm responsible for a ton of things and to only make a mistake or two isn't even a blip on the radar. I'm giving myself a break. For almost 25 years I've beat myself up and that's about enough. The rest of my working life will be spent being good to myself. If I'm good to myself, being nice to others will come naturally. I think I'm nice to everyone now, but it won't seem like such a chore anymore ! LOL
This could be some advice for you, Forever Young ! Stress is not only a workplace thing.
How was everyone's day today ????????

your back yard plans are way cool. all that work will result in such peace and beauty - good for you!
so you finally decided to quit beating yourself up because you're not perfect? way to go!!!!! when i first started with the school district and was scared simple about everything i did, a coworker told me there's nothing you can do that can't be fixed. how nice was that? of course, then things 1 and 2 put their heads together and made mountains out of nothing. oh well, it was what it was. now it's better x 105.
i worked 1.5 hours of overtime today at the request of the division chief. good for me. i could have stayed around and done nothing except watch the project be completed but i feel like it. too many people were already doing this and that. it was time to get home.
i went to home depot yesterday and got a gallon of behr paint - "sunburst" color. i'm going to paint 2 vintage metal lawn chairs with it. mama said it would have been cheaper to buy 2 new plastic chairs for what i spent on the paint. my response? "but these are vintage" LOL
i achieved what i set out to do over saturday and sunday. that makes me so happy!!!!
there is the most beautiful butterfly out back - black with blue markings. the dragonflies are back. and YES the lightning bugs!!!!!
i just typed in daily om in the google bar and this is what i've cut and pasted for you. most of the time it really hits home!!!! enjoy

you got on the interstate? yay for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what an achievement - what an accomplishment.
do you take any prescription medication for your palpitations? i take 10 ml of inderal every morning. there's only been one time in the last several months i felt like i needed more and i just broke one in half and pretty much melted it in my mouth. they taste awful and kind of make your tongue numb when you do that LOL
pat yourself on the back and know you're doing a great job - at everything you do!!!

All of my walls have Behr paint on them. Home Depot rolls out the red carpet for me ! LOL (but then I panic and run out screaming.....)
I don't blame you for painting the chairs. If the chairs are nice and they're what you want, then go for it ! Was it a can of paint you used on the chairs ? I went in to Home Depot and there were people buying a spray to do chairs. You can get "Rust-Oleum" spray paint for the chairs.
I need to get some new outdoor chairs. I had dark green adriondac (sp?) chairs - from Home Depot of course. I left them out all winter (by mistake) and the plastic cracked on all of them.
I need new chairs, a patio set and a good BBQ ! .......probably all from Depot ! LOL
I'd actually like to get a gas BBQ and hook it up to the line in the house, but some people have said not to because you can't move the BBQ to another area. I'd be stuck with it in one place. I'm so confused ! LOL

my vintage chairs aren't in the greatest shape ever - but they work perfectly for me and my back yard - AND they're rockers!!!!!! they have little squares cut out of the backs and seats. honey, they just rock - pun intended LOL
the paint guys at home depot said spray paint would be the best but i have a thing about paint fumes. that from someone who goes with a bucket of paint in one hand and a paint brush in the other LOL also, buying a gallon gave me the color i want.
i had a little less than half an old door on my downstairs veranda. i was using it on top of an old sewing machine stand as a table. i decided to use it on top of my little round iron table as the table top since the iron table is so small. i couldn't find a chisel so i used a flat head screw driver with a hammer and a power screw driver to cut a hole in it for my umbrella. it is a solid door - not what you find today LOL in fact, around here, the local wrecking/salvage place can't even find them anymore - they are in that high demand. i did the best job ever!!!! LOL i was so happy with myself when i got it done and everything!
not long after i finished, i saw a t-shirt on roadkill.com that said "a flat-head screw driver is NOT a chisel" - too funny!
for some reason my around the house projects have - so far - gone so well. what strangeness is this? LOL
