Last minute decision, last minute treat. I am going to the Yankee game this afternoon. (Courtesy of StubHub.com and $19.94
) It's a gorgeous day today and I wanted to get out and take a break. I checked online and the ticket price was definitely in my range, so "Go Yankees!"

samcat,
Thanks for the corporate 411. That is absolutely amazing about the Colgate Friday-Monday bit. It sounds so much like the about-faces I've been getting.
The Yankees lost but it was a wonderful day nonetheless. I was in the nose-bleeds above 3rd base but the view was great. It felt really good to relax, forget about the job situation for a while, and also treat myself.
Your husband rocks

It's funny, now that I am really reading your reply I realized I ended up taking your advice about doing something nice for myselfOriginally posted by Gisette:
Sorry to hear about the let-down, Charlie Brown. It's rough on the ego, job-hunting. To keep trying and trying, and hearing "no" and "no", or more commonly, the resounding echoing silence.
Until you hear one "yes" and you're done.
One of the least fun games ever devised.
I'm not Christian. But the idea that God has lost confidence in your desire to go back into sales... Well, I think it's a lot more likely that you're discouraged than that He's opposed or has conflicting plans.
The job market just sucks right now. Like musical chairs, and we didn't get the ones available when the music went off. And in a scary economy, everyone who's got a chair, no matter how little they like it, ain't gonna give it up. Yet.
But there are signs that the recession is ending. Then people will get job-mobile again. And the people who got chairs in sales during a deep recession probably haven't been well pleased with their chairs, so many will give them up as soon as it's safe, and there will be a free chair someplace you want to be. In the meantime, we keep trying and polish whatever new skills we think will help...
Hang in there. Do something nice (and cheap) for yourself today.
As far as the sales is concerned: EVERY sales company I liked/wanted to work for has flat out refused, or refused by no-replies. This has been going on for almost three months. I'm just getting the sense from all this that God/fate/my own feelings--whatever--is saying sales is not for me. Granted the economy still tugs but last week I got all the way up to the VP of sales in the interview process. I worked for this company ten years ago. The manager, who referred me to his boss the VP which meant he was interested in me, now fell off the planet (no reply to vm and email.)If that doesn't send me "no sales jobs" message, I don't know.
I am not getting upset at you. Lord, no. I am just upset at the situation. And I've asked many of the companies what is their reason for refusal, it's ok, just tell me so I know for future applications. They fall off the earth/don't answer
Ok sales is out. I also have a customer service/junior adm background. I wanted out of that because I got tired from the industry. The resumes I sent out last night were office-type jobs. No replies yet. We'll see. After that...

Hi Charlie,
God did promise to "supply" our needs, so I am "gonna" take HIM at HIS word!!! I am going to send up a prayer for you, my friend!!!
My monitor went bad, and I have another one ordered!!! It should be in tomorrow and I will be keeping an eye on this little thread
God said it and I believe it!!! PERIOD!!!
I am on my son's computer and I have to go home!!!
Goodnight my dear friend!!! May God richly bless you...Cloie
I prayed this morning before deciding on the ball game, "Ok, You don't want me in sales--fine. So where do I go. Lead me already."
I cannot do my own business until I get my job situation settled. So the upset is the corporate refusals and disappearances, the disappointment in being denied entry into a sales gig I feel I would be good at (yeah, I know He knows better), and delaying with my own project.

Like samcat, I think you just can't take it personally. The people who are considering hiring you have a zillion people to choose from and - even worse - probably spend the weekend studying fortune cookies, get frightened, and decide not to hire anyone. Companies where I have better insider visibility have done that to me - almost at the finish gate and, "Er, no, we've just restored our hiring freeze, sorry." Some others it became clear that they never did have any intention of hiring someone. They just used the excuse to bring people in and pick their brains for free.
My biggest, most long-standing client just stood me up for 3 months on paying invoices from January. They never did pay me through normal channels - the invoices were hung up in never-never land in perpetuity, so far as I could tell. Monday I managed to get an angel in Accounts Payable to pull them towards completion from the other end and I will at last get paid tomorrow or Friday!
Don't take it personally... They're being insufferably rude or worse to everybody.

It maybe so what you wrote in the first paragraph, but then I see the position I was vying for posted back up on Careerbuilder or another site. That spurs on anger and frustration because the passed on me, I know I can do the job, and they're still lookingOriginally posted by Gisette:
