things i do beside the program
on itunes, if you go to their store and do the program in conjunction with chopra center meditation podcasts, that really seemed to help me so i thought i'd come on here and recommend that as well. there's a really good one called "agni light meditation may 2009" that i recently did and it put a lot of anxiety at ease by also approaching it from a logical standpoint like the anxiety and depression program. enjoy!
I think this is a really good post. It's a combination of many things that get me through times of anxiety and I think it would be extremely beneficial to share our techniques with each other.
1. Lucinda's program. I listen to it in the car. I listen to it when I'm in the grocery store. I listen to each session over and over. I figure even if I'm not paying close attention to it every time, it's still penetrating my psyche.
2. Breathing techniques. I try to practice them even when I'm not having anxiety: in through my nose into my diaphragm, out through my mouth. As I inhale, I imagine breathing in positive, cleansing, comforting energy and when I exhale, I imagine breating out all the dark, negative, anxious energy. Also, each time I exhale I try to relax my muscles a little more...a little more...a little more each time.
3. What To Say When You Talk To Yourself by Shad Helmstetter. I know I talk about this book constantly but it really is like my little security blanket. I'd recommend it to everyone, especially those who live with anxiety and depression. ($7.99 on Amazon.com)
4. Journaling. I'm not very good at this one but it's good for me to especially write down when I'm having a good day. It helps a lot to go back and read good entries when I'm in my anxiety hole and feel like I won't ever get out. It's a good reminder that it will, indeed, pass.
5. Acupuncture. I have the most wonderful, kind, comforting acupuncturist. I don't know if it really works or if it's just a placebo effect but I sure feel nice and relaxed when I leave her office.
6. Support groups. I've always been an advocate of support groups. Nothing is better than sharing comfort and relief techniques with others who are going through the same thing.
7. Valerian essential oil. I rub it on my feet. It's amazing the effect it has on my mood. Very calming.
8. Sharing! I feel so much better when I don't feel like I have to hide my anxiety from the people around me (family, friends, coworkers, etc.).
9. For sleep: Melatonin (3mg)to help me fall asleep or Quietude from Boiron USA (homeopathic) to help me either get to sleep or get back to sleep if I wake up in the middle of the night. It's for "sleeplessness and restless sleep. I find that if I pair either of these things with my breathing exercise, it usually helps a lot.
I know there are more but I can't think of them at the moment.

Oh yeah I also watch alot of comedies since laughter is good medicine. We tend to take ourselves so seriously and nothing gets me back in the groove like a good old hearty laugh!
Any good comedy..I like The Marx brothers and old classics... Bob Hope, Danny Kaye. "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" brilliance.
