Yesterday on the 13th of Feb...Just out of no where I had the worse panic attack ever. I think I got dizzy first then my heart started skipping around and I thought I was going to pass out. I was freaking out so bad. I thought I was dying or having a heart attack or something. My husband and I and our son where driving down the road when this accured. Thank God I wasnt driving. I told him I was going to pass out and to call 911. He whipped it around and hauled butt to the hospital. My hands went totally numb and tingly. They took me straight back did a EKG, Cardiac bloodwork and chest xray and all were normal. Thank God but I tell ya that was terrible. I went in the ER telling them I was having a heart attack. I just knew that was what was happening to me. I have had panic before but never on this level. I stayed in the ER about 2 hours and after all the test they sent me home cause nothing was abnormal. That was one heck of a day.

I to can understand the feeling of panic while driving. I am a police officer and the car is my office. When I started having panic attacks I was so scared to drive because I though I would pass out. I started the StressCenter.com program and learned the panic attacks will not kill you and that you will not pass out from them. Just practic the breathing technique and accept it. You can get through it. I recovered back in 2001 and started having them again last year. Since I have been on the program I have not had a panic attack since last October. Just remember, You are not alone. We are all here for you.

I have done really well with the driving I have some anxious feelings but no panic attacks. I just started a new job, I have found that when I get home it is SO hard to settle down. I know I should be relaxing but I an unable to do so. Anyone have any suggestions? I just don't know if it's the new job, new schedule, maybe I am overwhelmed? I just can't figure it out. Everyday after dinner I get the feeling of the elephant sitting on my chest. I do the breathing it just doesnt seem to help like it usually does. My stomach is bloating and I just cant catch my breath. What is going on??? Any advice is greatly appreciated. : )

funkspy,
You have lots of company in the world with the panic attacks while driving.
Huge hugs to you. You CAN overcome this and will.

I used to have panic attacks every day, several times a day and even more when I was driving. Or should I say attempting to drive? It was so difficult for me to even get in the car, never mind drive even a very short distance -like 1/4 of a mile. I pretty much did not drive for many years except when my hubby was with me.

Thank God for this program. I drive everywhere now and it still amazes me.
And I am so grateful to be out in the world again for these past 3+ years.

I don't know how I would be coping now-not well for sure- if it was not for completing this program. I worked hard at it and it is truly a blessing!!!
My husband passed away suddenly in May from a heart attack and I am on my own, but OK.
I thank God all the time for my new coping skills and the ability now to get out by myself and feel confident and secure in life.

You can conquer this. Go for it!

Hugs again.

Well, here it is almost 6 months later and not only and I still not driving, but I am also housebound. I must admit I haven't been doing the program as I should be. I have seen several doctors convinced that I had something other then just panic attacks and anxiety. Apparently I was wrong, and I have classic anxiety and panic disorder. I was doing quite well for about 2 weeks and even managed to get out of the house and attend a concert with the help of xanex. I keep thinking that I will just snap outta this one day, but these conditions take work to get over. I have full confidence that I will have my life back, but it will just take some time and patience. Thankyou to everyone who has shared their story. I really believe that we all can overcome this. God bless you all and keep fighting! I might be a little weak right now but I won't give up.

Hello~ My WORST panic attacks have been in the car. First, its the heart beating like mad, then the dizzyness that came in waves like childbirth contractions..then the dizzness was so bad I thought I was going to faint. I even felt it in my eyes and my face got all red and hot. Its was just awful... thought I was going to die... I just had to make it home. It is so good to know that there are people out there like me that are suffering and that I am not really dying and that it will pass. To anyone new to this...hang in there and learn all you can about anxiety. This has helped me the most. I am now going through the program that is offered here on this website and its helping a lot. Even more than my weekly therapy sessions. At therapy I feel like I am mostly talking and complaining for 100 bucks an hour but with the tapes in my car I have to listen only....
