I had a feeling I would see Dr. Oz's name today... I record his show... don't watch all of them, just the ones that might have something of interest for me. Last night I saw what todays show was about and thought, "Nope, gonna stay as far away from that as I can" I even jumped on his website to see if I could figure out what it might or not not entail. They didn't have any info posted yet.

I like Dr. Oz but he doesn't cover issues in as much depth as he should. He tries to cover too many topics w/o doing a really good job on any of them. So, he is just going to scare to hooey out of alot of people unnecessarily.

I am so glad that I am in a place where I don't feel driven to watch this stuff. I'm smart enough about anxiety to know what I can and can't watch. No more horror movies and definitely no Dr. Oz today!

I agree with Shifrah--they get their ratings by sensationalistic (is that a word??) stuff. The scarier, creepier stuff they show, they think it makes people tune in. I stopped watching Dr. Oz after the episode about the woman who had MRSA and it was something that would happen to one in a billion people. But it was scary as the dickens and completly gross. So no more Dr. Oz for me. Frankly, I barely turn the TV on at all. It is so negative and that is the very habit we are trying so hard to break, why reinforce it by watching anxiety producing junk on the TV?

Ever think that that may be one reason there is so much anxiety and depression in our population? The written and printed media are full of negativity!!

What really ticks me off is that a lot of people in the medical community involved with the media who are on these shows are supposed to be giving truthful information to help you make wise decisions about your health, but they actually end up lying and sending misinformation to get ratings and attention. For example, there aren't panic attacks that are deadly! When researching the issue further, we see that he meant there are times when people are misdiagnosed and it could be deadly if they are treated for the wrong condition which applies to any condition really, and then again, how common is that really? That may have happened once or something. So, by acting like something that rarely occurs is common, this person who represents the medical community is basically participating in malpractice if you want my opinion!

Secondly, I agree with everyone else on this issue. As you get better with your anxiety, you start to ignore these shows, commercials, etc. that use fear as a manipulator. You can go, "Oh! Dr. Oz is talking to the person who doesn't care one flip about their health and hasn't tried to get help for their anxiety, etc." I bet if you watched the show, and it scared you and you went to the doctor over it, the doctor would then say that it was your anxiety that caused you to believe Dr. Oz and treat you like you are insane. I can't stand that. We all can't live that way. Chances are if we are on this board, we've been checked, know we have anxiety and pay far greater attention to our health than the average person. Sadly, in the medical community, those who are supposed to help and inform us can often have a negative parenting style towards those they treat. They can often assume that most of us don't have a clue, are frequently doing horrible things to our health, and that they need to scare us into listening to them which gives them money, ratings, etc.

So did anyone actually see the show today?? I was at the food bank and missed it. I hate speculating and guessing on something I haven't seen for myself. I know that one channel in town shows his show on a repeat later. Again , Knowledge is power and can be freeing. Just like having the StressCenter.com stuff is seemingly scary at first but upon actually delving in we see that it's not. But having said that, IF he did make a mountain out of a molehill I will be the first one to go Gangsta in a letter to the show and tell him to not try to shock or scare anyone ever again :p and that we will boycott the show.so there ;)

You could probably find it on you tube or hulu or something.

I watched the show today. It was pretty interesting, but I wouldn't recommend it if you're really sensitive to this stuff. They had 3 or 4 women on that thought they were having panic attacks but it ended up being something physical. I won't get into it much, but one of the diagnosis was something on one of the organs that caused cortisol to leak out. The rest may cause a real panic attack ! LOL ...sorry.

WOW I would have wrote and complained about Dr. Oz also 3 months ago before I started taking Celexa but now I am able to watch his show (I also record it everyday) and not freak myself out. Now that I have been on this med I am not scared all the time about everything, thank GOD.So I understand why all you are upset but know I can take the knowledge he gives and not be so scared. Best to all.

I saw the show, and it didn't really talk about anything that hasn't been mentioned in this forum already.

He did mention stress, the adrenal gland and thyroid...which are normally checked out by your PCP when you have routine lab work.

Suggested exercise, yoga, meds, blah blah blah... same old stuff that we all already know!! So, don't freak if you didn't see it... there was nothing on there that hasn't been brought up in this forum many times.

Now, if we could all just get this crap under control, wouldn't life be grand?

Good luck one and all... I am right there with you!

He is compromising his standing as a professional for stardom. Watching his show or the coming attractions for his show is the same as the news. Sensationalism. That's how they get you to tune in. I am still recovering from an anxiety attack from the news last night about ct scans. Its horrific. They have the news on at night for hours and its all horrible. Death, dying, killings, muggings, new findings, blah, blah, blah. Enough already. Do we need to wonder why the anxiety rate is so high? Trying to stay strong. Don't want the news on in my house or car anymore. I'll check the weather on the computer, thank you.
