I don't mean this thread to sound big headed but can't think off another way to word it.
I'm the type of guy that if you stood on my foot I would apologize to you.
Or last summer we had an incident, my son was getting bullied by another boy on our street, this went on a while until I got fed up and went to the boys mother, she apologized and made her son apologise, I then made my son apologise and he had done nothing wrong, the mother said, "Why are you apologizing, you did nothing wrong" I felt rather foolish.
At work I am angered daily because the most horrible people are the ones running the show, the amount general unpleasantness angers me, they really are not nice people, they back stab, bitch but it seems to be rewarded, but then the boss is the same.
This isn't really about a lack of assertiveness, its more about morals and basic human decency, while I may not be going anywhere in life I feel I can sleep easy at night, how some folk out there can is beyond me.
Do you find you can be to nice?
I firmly believe that it is today's society that feels they have to be angry with themselves and with the world. It never used to be this way. I see it all the time, the shouting, the cursing and it seems to be these people that get the "rewards".
I don't care about those people, I choose to disassociate myself from them whenever I can. I don't need their negativity.
It is our nature to be apologetic, I think. I have read this for years. We are the sympathetic people, the empathetic people. We are apologists. I tend to catch myself saying, "sorry" a lot even though I have nothing to be sorry for. I suppose it's a habit with me.
I don't think we can ever be too nice. We can be over apologetic for sure. And, I don't take that as a lack of self esteem. It's just inherent in our personalities.
