does anyone just shake really badly during a panic attack? I had one tonight now I'm exhausted and achy. My chest is hurting but it usually does when I'm anxious. Feeling real sick to my stomach.

Hi. I don't think I've had a full blown panic attack, but I do get the shakes. It's almost like when you are really cold and shivering, and I feel really detached and lightheaded. The breathing exercises and reading affirmations help me to calm down. Sometimes I have to call my BF, but I try not to rely on him too much because I know I have to be my own safe person. Hope this helps!

i was shaking pretty bad in the ER one night a while back. i think it was from the cold IV they had goin into me. my temp hit 95.something. they covered me and put in warm IV fluids, and i was OK.... but i think it was from the panic attack seeing as that was prolly my worst attack to date.

Hi lost,

Yes, it is normal to shake during a panic attack. What happens is that when your body is in the fight or flight situation, it sends the blood to all the the important organs leaving your hands and feet like ice, it is also the the release of cortasol and adrenlin which can take some time for your body to reabsorb it back into your body.
After having a panic attack it is SO normal to feel exhausted and achy. It is like your body just ran a race and you might feel tired and achy after running a race right.
I hope this helps,it will get better and you can overcome this!!
Take care,
Debbie

When I have a panic attack or severe anxiety my sensations become numbed. If you were fighting off an attacker your body wouldn't want you to crumple to the ground in pain the moment you take a hit, so it's natural for adrenaline to block sensations I suppose.

In addition to pain, anxiety also seems to numb temperature sensation and hunger for me. If I'm very anxious I won't get hungry, and I won't notice if I'm cold/hot as much. Often when an anxiety/panic attack wears off I realize "holy crap I'm hungry and it's cold."

During my first panic attack I called an ambulance, it was 20-something degrees Fahrenheit outside and I remember I walked shirtless to the ambulance. I felt the cold, but the sensation was reduced dramatically and it was easy to ignore in the panicky moment.
