Went to the doc today and she wants me to try Lexapro. I used to take Effexor but weened off cuz I was feeling better, but now I'm getting attacks again to the point where I'm avoiding doing things cuz I'm afraid to have another attack. I hated the withdrawl of Effexor and the cost. She said Lexapro is more for anxiety and that's what I need. Of course tho I'm leary of taking a new medicine and worried about side effects etc. Does anyone have any advice on this plz? Is it one of the better meds to take?

Hi Karmish

I read your post and Corinna, and I too am wondering if I should go on the Lexapro. I've posted before that I am trying to decide, but as you Corinna, I am starting to avoid going places because of getting another panic attack. I am to the point that it is a constant 24/7 anxiety. I am so tired of the anxious feelings that are a part of my everyday life. When I read your post Corinna it sounds like it has really helped you. I wish I could know ahead that it would work for me but I'm just so afraid of taking medication. How soon did you notice that the Lexapro started to help you? Karmish, if it would help to go places again then it would be well worth it. Please let me know what you decide.

Corinna,

You might ask your doctor for Xanax or diazepam for anxiety. They are short acting antianxiety meds. They are more for specific incidents of anxiety, I think. You don't have to work up to a blood level with them, but if you're anxious all of the time, the Lexapro might be the way to go.

Lexapro by far was and is the easiest drug for me. Easy as in little side effects. Just a little brain fog for a few days and that is it. Lexapro by design is a pretty pure drug. Lexapro is the purified version of Celexa. So by design all of the unpure things of Celexa were removed leaving only the best for Lexapro! Don't be scared! For me, it has been absolutely great. I've been on it for about 4 years. Ranging from 20mg all the way to 40mg.

I thought the max dose was 20mg per day. Just your doc have you taking 40mg and is that ok?

I ask the phychiatrist if 40mg was okay. He said that I wouldn't find any information in the drug literature / online that indicated it was a safe dose! That is one of the reasons I took myself off of it. It just didnt feel right 1) that high of a dose / potential organ damage 2) the extreme brain fog
