Maybe if I explain what vertigo is maybe someone out there might be experiencing the same thing.
What is vertigo?
Few people describe their balance problem by using the word vertigo which comes from the Latin verb "to turn." They often say that they or their surroundings are turning or spinning. Vertigo is usually due to an inner ear problem. But not always, as in my case.
When I get vertigo I feel like I'm spinning in circles or my surroundings are spinning and I feel spacey and ditached from the ground and like I'm sinking or something. I can't think right my thinking feels foggy. Sometimes my legs get numb. The more nervous I get or the more anxiety I get the worse my symptoms of vertigo get, such as my vision gets worse and it's difficult for me to see with all the spinning going on. So I'm not sure if it's just anxiety or if it's vertigo. The doctors tell me it's vertigo that I have and that there is no cure for me. They tried giving me meclazine for the nausea and for the spinning but it doesn't help. The doctors tell me to lay down and rest and it will go away but sometimes it doesn't. It is getting in the way from me working. And since I want to go back to work, I'm scared about having vertigo and the anxiety. Since I get it almost everyday, and that is making me depressed.
Dizziness or dyequilibrium is often associated with a central problem and can result from not enough blood and oxygen getting to the brain. This insufficiency may be due either to narrowing of the vessels that supply blood to the brain
(arteriosclerosis), pinching of blood vessels in the neck
(cervical osteoarthritis), or as a result of disorders such as diabetes or anemia. In these cases, dizziness generally occurs when getting up from a sitting or reclining position or when turning the head suddenly.
Thats what usually happens to me if I turn my head suddenly I get really dizzy and spacey and that causes my anxiety. Because I feel like I'm gonna fall on the floor or something, and sometimes I do fall.
If the doctors says there's no cure for me what am I supposed to do if I want to work? I don't know what my options are? I've even tried to apply for disability before but I was turned away. And well my job experience is sort of secretarial work and typing on the computer makes me very dizzy and brings on the anxiety which starts the vertigo.
I just don't know what to do about it. Are there any suggestions out there for me? I would appreciate any comments.
I was wondering if hypnosis would be an option for me? Does anyone know much about hypnosis and if you think that would work?
I do believe I have the narrowing of blood vessels that is restricting oxygen to my brain and that brings on the symptoms of spinning and that scares me and brings on the anxiety. What can someone do if your blood vessels are so narrow? Can they be widened, somehow? So I can get the oxygen to my brain that I need? I found that my pinching the back of my neck repeatedly that causes the spinning to stop for a limited time and then goes back to spinning.
Anyways I need some help and some advise.
Thanks, Dee
