Ok, this is kind of strange but I am really dreading the winter months. I know lots of people dislike winter, but I'm dreading it because last winter I had a really bad bout of anxiety that lasted pretty much the whole winter. Now I sort of associate winter with anxiety. So now that it's getting colder and darker earlier I'm starting to get fearful and obsessive about my anxiety getting bad. Has anyone else felt like this? Any advice? Thanks!

mtd...I completely understand! Just last week I thought the exact same thing. Quite honestly, the last couple of years, I've had to go on medication because of depression/anxiety that is triggered by the winter months...I think. It's weird. The last couple of years I've weaned myself off of the meds by March/April only to go back on in September/October. I think those of us with anxiety are just wired a little different and are more sensistive to time and light changes, etc. I try and remaain active by working out on my bike and keeping my fitness up. It's helped. Also, just take it one day at a time. We'll get through...

You may want to look into light therapy. I know a few people who's depression comes during the winter due to lack of sunlight. They buy a special light that they sit under for about 20 minutes a day and it has helped them a lot.

mtdeffend,

It was this month last year that my panic attacks were at their worst. I ended up taking days off work because of it. I have the same anticipatory anxiety as well. What's getting me thru it now is what I learned in the program. I actually feel good now. All you can do is one day at a time. Make sure to take time out just to breathe. Relaxation is SO important. Journalling still helps for me too. Once I have it down on paper, I don't need to remember it anymore. Something else that seems so simple is drinking water. I get in 10 glasses a day. I find If I'm dehydrated, it gives me massive headaches. That adds to the stress and panic. Water is needed especially in the colder months where it's cold, but it's a damp cold. Just treat yourself well over the winter.
