What type of doctor do you receive your meds from, a family doctor or a psychiatrist, or som other specialist? Just wondering. I have gone to family doctors and have not been satisfied with the results. Since a psychiatrist specializes in these issues, he/she may have a better idea what will work. What have your experiences been?

I went to my regular Dr and she did prescribe Xanax. I then went to a Psychiatrist and she prescribed something better and diagnosed with GAD. My regular Dr didn't ask all of the same questions a Psychiatrist will. I think, for me, the best thing was going to a Psychiatrist.

Most GP's don't have either the training or experience to adequately treat mental illness. I go to a Nurse Practiconer specializing in psy.

Sorry, my forethoughts were behind me. Once you have an adequate drug program, your GP can write you the scripts.
