cloneazepam
I would like to talk to all of you about Clonazepam or also called "Klonopin". I was on this for six years and then my body developed a tolerance to it, which means I would have to take more to get the same effect. I had to go into detox to completely get off the drug. I have to say I was in HELL. It was the worst thing I had ever gone through. During withdrawl I experienced, dizziness, flu like symtoms, numbness in arms, nausea, double ear infection, severe anxiety, panic and the worst was feeling suicidal. I can only warn all of you that Benzodiazipines are extremely, extremely addictive and only take them if you are extremely anxious. I took them everyday and never knew I was really addicted to them until I had to stop. It is very scary. I went through four months of withdrawl. Right now I am on prozac, 40mg and will be starting Buspar-10mg. I know a lot of people need these benzos for anxiety but lets face it our doctors don't honestly know that we might build up a tolerance and have to withdawl from this. None of my docs told me this. If anyone here is wanting or having to withdrawl from benzos: ativan, klonopin, or valium, you would want to look up the Ashton Manual online. It is a great site that tells you how to withdrawl from benzos in a slow and safe way. God Bless!
Hi everyone -
I am new to this board but have found it very helpful. I was put on Klonopin a year ago for anxiety by my regular doctor. Had so many people laugh when i told them thats what I was taking, they were shocked my doctor would give it to me on a "take as you need" basis. Well, I ma finally off of it - a drug that I consider one of the worse!!!!! Lost all short term memory, within 15 minutes I would slur words, walk into walls and be a waste basically. I did become very addicted to it (recovering alchy so yes I have that personality.) Took me a while but off it now and on Buspar instead. Much happier but would not suggest anyone take Klonpoin unless needed

I have been taking Paxil 40mg. It takes the edge off. Some days I feel a stronger doe is needed. I am down from 60mg a year ago.
Because my Panic Disorder is considered situational, I was given Clonazepam as needed. Only at night before bed.
It does make me sleepy and I haven't had to use it on a daily basis longer than 4-5 days.
I found no withdrawl symptoms.
If another situation comes up is this a medication on the no-no list for operating machinery?

I have Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy so my doctor put me on Depakote and Clonezepam eight years back . I took the Clonezepam for seven years and then last year my doctor changed and he helped me get off Clonezepam . I didn't have any side effects or anything. Don't think the clonezepam did anything at all . Now since two months due to anxiety issues my other doctor initially put me on Clonezepam 1.5 mg a day and slowly put me on Celexa or Lexapro but both of the other drugs made me a zombie so I don't use them. I am going to try this course to see if the anxiety goes away and if it does then I am going to get off Clonezepam . From my last experience I found it was easy enough to get rid off. It took about a month cutting doses in half every two weeks.
As jbm alluded to, my understanding (from my current meds doc) is that klonopin is generally only addictive to those that have an addictive nature. We are all different, and what is addictive for one may not be for another. I took it for quite a while, and it was not addictive for me, and had no problem going off of it. And since it is a very short-acting drug with a pretty quick onset, it IS prescribed for situational anxiety - that's how it was for me, and how I used it. It can definitely make you very sleepy and loopy - it did for me.
i've been on clonazepam for 10 years now....wow that feels weird to say....well anyhow...I've gone through periods of time where i didn't take it. Last time was 3 months in 2007 and during that time i took it maybe once. Mine was originally on a daily basis but i was told later i could take it as needed and it's been just fine for me. For a while I felt it wasn't helping but now it does again and i dunno if that is because I stopped taking it as much for a while but i get the effects of it again. I've never had bad side effects from stopping. I guess it all depends on your body chemistry. For me anti depressants are the worst. Before i took clonazepam i took ativan for a few months but i, too, for it made me kinda sleepy.
I am currently on 2mg as needed. Once a day.
