Panic Attacks During Sleep
brktynr@yahoo.comI rarely have them in my sleep but from time to time I do! It is very scarey I know. I'll wake up and feel like I cant handle being in the dark. And even sometimes I even scream. I turn on some sort of light and splash water in my face and then try to go back tosleep. Most of the time it happens right before I have to get up for work and it makes me mad as hek !
I often have panic attacks during sleep. I was just wondering yesterday if anyone else in this program did. I wake up all sweaty and I can feel the adrenaline in my body. My mind races and I have to force myself to change my thoughts to something positive. Usually within a half hour or so, I fall back asleep. Before I learned to do this, I would wake up every morning in a panic. I couldn't eat for months and would get up and vomit, so at the time I had lost a lot of weight. It was due to scary obssesive thoughts that would somehow get triggered in my sleep and instead of stopping them I would perpetuate them, because I thought I had to figure them out and find the answers. They were "what if" thoughts and I was afraid that if I let them go I would overlook something and that my daughter would end up getting hurt by someone. I have a PTSD from something that happend as a child, so my fears are usually related to something happening to my daughter. Anyway, I still do wake up in a panic from time to time, I just have to control my thoughts and realize it is better for my daughter to let the negative thoughts go!
I've only had this happen a few times really seriously. I wake up suddenly in the middle of the night and at first I don't think or realize I'm having a panic attack; I think there's something else wrong with me. Sometimes the first thing I feel is being hot and/or tingly all over, and sometimes I feel like someone dumped ice water on me. As soon as I wake up a little bit, I get the regular panic attack feelings and I have to calm myself down. It's horrible, because you never feel more alone than in the middle of the night. Usually I pray my guts out!
Yes, that is how it all started, from night to day, I hate taking meds but xanex helped me with that, I fell in love with it, I would even dream .For my palpatations Im on inderal and it helps, now remenber I hate taking meds but I got to do what I got to do and that is make it.And with this program we will.
Hello, I too have panic attacks during sleep. Sometime during the time I am asleep, I have the feeling that my heart stops. I wake up yelling or screaming with a tense feeling in my chest. It takes a few minutes before I realize I'm okay and I then go back to sleep. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there something that can be done to reduce or eliminate these episodes? I don't have panic attacks when I am awake. Should I see a psychiatrist or a general practitioner?
My worst panic attacks generally come at night while I'm sleeping. I typically don't get them during the day at all. I get the heart palps, nausea, etc. I'm new to this program and I'm hoping it will help me with that.
I, too, have had some good results from calcium/magnesium supplements...at least with the heart palps.
The weird thing with me is that I tend to get them worse when something really great has happened, but if something bad happens I don't get them at all...???
I don't think it hurts to see a doctor if you haven't already, just to be sure. I had an EKG done at my doctor's office in the middle of an attack, once, and he said he would give me a print out to hang over my bed so I could remind myself that I don't have any heart problems....I was too embarrassed to take him up on it, but I've never forgotten that.
