Does anybody else get a very tight chest and head, especially when sitting or laying down? This has been my main symptom over the past few months...it feels as though almost my entire upperbody is being squeezed and it makes my nerves go through the roof, and for some reason it seems to be at its worse when I am sitting with my feet up or when I am laying down and trying to sleep...its not nearly as bad if I am standing or sitting upright.

Thank you for responses

Yes, I do. Especially late at night or when I wake up in the middle of the night and my mind is racing. I now know it is panic - Ultimately the goal is for this to go away but for the moment and when it occurs - I get out of bed and try yoga stretches and meditate. I agree - it's not nearly as bad when I stand or sit upright (meditating) as it is when I am laying in bed.

YES! me too, but the KEY here is to 1st reconize the problem and then STOP what you are doing and think out what you need to do next? And that is 1st Sit back upward id it happens when you lean back or lay back in a recliner. 2nd Close your eyes and take that 2 second deep inhale breath & then the 4 second exhale breath. Now as LUCINDA says, continue this for a while until you relax/calm yourself down. Then continue with the rest of her steps of relaxation and you will be so relieved of what was happening in the beginning, that you'll forget it... It WILL WORK!!! but you have to start it right away, don't put it off, trying to second guess Lucindas techniques.
