I have found it helpful to practice self-talk daily. Especially when I start to think negative thoughts, I immediately put positive ones in my head and talk to myself. Sometimes I even have to escape to the bathroom so I can say them out loud to myself (well, at least in a whisper, but loud enough for me to hear nonetheless). Use the cards that came with the program too. I always have those in my purse and will slide them onto my lap when I need them in anxious moments in church and other public places. I've also found it helpful to doodle positive thoughts on a piece of paper when I need a break from the anxious thoughts. Best of luck in your journey to overcoming your anxiety...stay focused and do what the lessons say. Be positive that you can and will be able to get over the anxiety attacks and you won't always have to live like that. Congrats for taking the big step and starting the program. I'm confident your life will change from here if you continue on that path!

I've had the same questions, I too think we're just suppose to be kinder to our self all together not just start when you beginning to feel badly, at least that's what I'm trying to do.

Good luck to you ;)

You'll know instinctively - you'll get yourself there by practicing daily - you'll know WHEN intuitively, because that THOUGHT YOU JUST HAD made you feel BAD + SAD + DWN + DISCOURAGED + FRIGHTENED + INTIMIDATED + INSECURE + NEGATIVE = ALL NEGATIVE THINGS. That is how you come to know what a negative thought really is - it just doesn't make you feel good.

W/ RELAXATION - I would do them initially as instructed, @ least 3 x's per day + - so that you train yourself to know how & when. You'll KNOW WHEN -

I started off listening to the relaxation tapes three times a day no matter what or how I felt. Right before I went to sleep, as soon as I got up in the morning, and once in the afternoon. By the time I got to session 3 I was able to focus pretty well on how to begin the self talk and journal what I needed to journal. The journaling helps you see what you are saying to yourself and what kind of self talk makes you feel bad. These are the ones to work on restructuring into realistic positive statements. In the beginning the sessions give you assignments in the guidebook and then tell you to just observe. These sessions all build on one another and I think by the end of session three (if you are doing the assignments and listening to the CDs) you will have a better understanding as to when to do the self talk. This is not an overnight cure and will take dedication and patience, but is well worth the effort.

So well said Mary, Thankyou!!!

I can't really think of anything else to add except to wish everyone a better day today than yesterday, and a better day each & every day.
