Help for anxiety induced hot flashes

Yes I get these big-time! My hair sometimes is soaking wet and drips with perspiration. I am 62 and went through real hot flashes many years ago after a hysterectomy. I know these are panic induced.
I have used mind control and it did work, however it is an overpowering feeling, and so it takes some practice. I just "talked to myself" silently saying "this is a panic attack. I don't know what is causing it, but I invite any feelings in so I can look at you. I am not afraid." Focus on the present moment and don't fight the feelings or the heat. The heat subsides, the sweating didn't have time to start, but I continued thinking in this way until all feelings of panic were gone. It worked!
I find if I deliberately think in this fashion when I first experience the feeling which comes with the hot flash, I can usually overcome it. Like I say it does take some practice.
The only other method I know of is to think intentionally about something that isn't upsetting. Maybe "What kind of candle is my favorite? What color is it? What fragrance? Picture it in your mind." or What kind of dress would I buy if I could buy any dress? What color? etc.
Hope this helps. It isn't nice to go through this especially at work.

The hot flashes are nothing to be feared. I also get the chills. When the flash starts I acknowledge that i'm having one, take some breaths, telling myself this is harmless and it will pass. Now that I'm learning that anxiety does bring on flashes and chills, I also try to mentally go to a peaceful place to calm me. They can be annoying because they capture my attention completely. Sometimes they're part of a tremendous "power surge" where I feel I must get up and do something.

I don't know if y'all have seen my post in this forum, but i've had really crazy burning sensations that go off and on. According to folks on this forum, it seems that these sensations are also brought on by anxiety, but it is so difficult to ignore them when they're really bad. It's awesome to read posts like those on this topic though; there is hope and the mind can overcome anything

Thank you for this information. I have these flashes at night when I can't sleep. I do have chills durning the day...especially a tingling sensation down my legs that gets worse when I an in a cold environment....freezer section at the grocery store. It is anxiety! It will go away. I had the same kind of symptoms when I was on the program for the first time in 1996.

I have hot flashes and chills sometimes also, but I thought that it was break through menopausal sydrome. I started taking Black Cohosh Root, and it helped me a lots. I use to wake up at night with my gown soaking wet from sweating and after about 2 weeks after taking this herb I do not be bothered with this anymore. Of course you may need to check with your doctor first. I have a doctor that believes in herb treatment, so good luck with getting them to approve.

WOW! I'm glad I kept reading this. I've been experiencing extremely hot flashes all over and let me tell you, it is BAD. I feel like my flesh inside my skin is on FIRE. It lasts between 45 minutes to 3-4 hours!
When I first wake up in the morning it starts, then I walk around with my shirt pulled up above my belly & rub it real lightly to give me chills. Truthfully, I don't know if it helps.
I get hot flashes in my legs, in my stomach, my arms, my head & my face. Not always at the same time. It seems like my internal temperature is off whack - I get chills & shakes at various times, then other times I get heat & pricklies???
Right now as I'm typing, the right side of my face & neck are really HOT. Mine seems to travel - does anyone elses?
I know this is anxiety & it will go away.
