hey !im a newby
Hi newbies, for those that can't afford this program yet, I suggest some more reading that may help. First, The Anxiety & Phobia Workbook, by Edmund J. Bourne, and then anything by Claire Weekes. Both are good sources. I wouldn't say you'll never conquer anxiety without this program. Lucinda certainly did.
The same materials that were available to her are available to us, it's just much easier that she put them all together already. When you're suffering, it sure is helpful to find just one source that will guide you.

Too often we enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.

Hey deedee00!I was just wandering what exactly you started doing to overcome your anxiety? You always have excellent advice!I have had this for about 13 years now.I'm pushing hard to be able to deal with my anxiety. It's so hard!I've been making myself go out and face my fears.I was housebound for about 2 years.I went out to lunch at a restaurant last week {ha ha} and went to the grocery store!Yea!But my problem is I can't seem to get rid of all these symptoms {racy feelings, dizziness, and floaty feelings}even at home.Happens everyday!Very frustrating!I'm scared to death that I'll have to live like this for the rest of my life.Any advice would help so much.Thank you and God Bless!
Actually, the only thing that I found is that I tended to start falling asleep during it, or my mind would wander. Now I find that listening to natural sounds with music is almost as effective for relaxation, but there is still a need to do all the breathing and muscle exercises. You could get other relaxation CDs and play a different one each time. Just a thought.Originally posted by carmencita:
I am a newby too...well 3 weeks in. Does anyone else find the relaxation cd has less effect the more you listen to it, even though it recommends 3 to 4 times a day? Maybe it's just me?!?!

Hello fear not.
I had the same symptoms as you and you will get rid of it. Just keep doing the program and do EVERYTHING it says especially when it comes to taking chances and challenging yourself. Remember that the anxiety and the "feelings" won't hurt you and that you really can do whatever you want even when you're lightheaded and anxious. You wont faint or fall over. As for the dizziness/lightheadness, you have to try not to be afraid of it. It sounds strange to have someone tell you that when you're going through it, but Lucinda said in the program that you have to stop being afraid for it to go away. Because anxiety needs fear to survive and once you are not afraid it goes away.
Anxiety is really just fear creating problems for us. Without fear we don't have those symptoms. If you think about it, it makes sense. When we have body symptoms and we start scaring ourselves, the symptoms get worse. So if we decide not to let the body symptoms scare us, they'll get better.
That's exactly what I did. I decided that no matter how I feel, I won't be afraid. It was difficult at first, but it get's easier. It only took a few days before I started believing what I was saying. I also started telling myself the TRUTH, that I was okay, that I will not faint or go crazy, or make a fool out of myself, and that there was nothing wrong with me. It worked! My lightheadness started gouing away along with the rest of the stuff. And now when something bad happens, like my mom going into the hospital, I'll sometimes get a little anxious and a bit lightheaded, but it doesn't scare me anymore. And it doesn't last long, and that's great considering that I was lightheaded 24 hours a day for over 15 years!
I hope this helps. pm me if you have any more questions. I'm always happy to help.

Hello deedee00!Thank you so much for your post!I'm going through a rough couple of days because my family is leaving for Spring break vacation early tomorrow morning.I will be alone for 4 days.I have such self doubt that this is extremely hard for me.I used to go on vacation with them even with my anxiety but not these past 2-3 years.I'm just missing out on so much and all the memories that I could have with my children. All because of fear that I just don't understand!I'm a believer in God,Why am I so afraid?I know where your coming from about not being afraid of the symptoms.I was doing fairly well with that but then I seem to always let the fear and what-ifs take over.I'll be pressing on.I just won't give up!Thank you!God Bless!
Hello fear not.
Try to stop thinking about what you and your children are missing out on. I use to do that, too. That negative thinking only holds you back and makes you miss even more. Forgive yourself for not being able to do everything you want with your children. You can't help not being able to do a lot of things right now. You'll make it up to them when you're better.
Use those four days to do the things you need to do for yourself, that you haven't gotten around to doing.
