Hi there,

I just started the program today and I feel really positive about this program. I deal with a lot of aniexty/panice attacks. My heart beats rapidly, feeling nervous, axcious, etc. I fall asleep and wake up through out the early morning hours. I just can't go back to sleep. I'm taking Zanax when needed, pretty much twice through the night/morning. I'm also debating on taking the second medication Lexapro. The doctor prescribed the medication the same I received the program. I'm debating on taking this new medicine/

I am in the same situation as you. I have not tried the medication, (although I have strongly considered it) I personally do not perfer medication because i believe it is a temporay relief of your anxiety. This program is designed to permeantly get rid of depression and anxiety. With the medication once your off the anxiety will more than likely return. But if you choose the medication route try the program as well and stick to one medication. You have a lot of support here. In session 1 it explaines the benifits of using medication verses the Stress Tapes. You dont want to over medicate and become depended. I believe with the tapes and the support groups you will over come this. Think Positive and I hope for the best for you in your recovery.

:) Hello. I am new to the program as well. I understand your feelings of anxiety and lack of sleep. I suffer from similar sleep probs. I am on paxil for my anxiety and panic disorder. I also get a sleeping pill although I have run out and am trying to do without them. It has been over a month now. However, I find myself eating alot more often especially since quitting pain meds about six months ago cold turkey. I was on morphine for a crushed cyatic nerve. I am sharing this as I wish to suggest that you remain careful regarding meds and transferring to new "supposed" solutions. I would like to correspond with you and others here, with trying to manage with as little meds as possible by concentrating on a healthier approach. However, I am a newbie and am just starting but your post struck a strong chord with me.

Please let me know how you are doing. I will share the shame. I have surrounded myself with ambient lighting, putting on the relaxation tape and a relaxation "zen" tape with comforting sounds of nature, which seem to help. I found that turning off the tv while in bed, aids in me falling asleep better. Now, staying asleep is another question tho. I find that if I get up suddently, that it results in headaches. While eating helps me to go back to sleep, it is a huge problem with my weight gain. I am already too thick around the middle after losing much weight while on pain meds. Yikews!
If you or anyone has any insights and experiences to share with anything that I have posted, please do so.

Getting back on your topic, I find that I am now a nighthawk, and finding that I can sleep better during the daytime...My bf, who is also full of stress, suffers the same thing and we kind of stress out each other's sleep habits...or lack there of.

I look forward to sharing any new ideas and learning from you and others, regarding sleeping and relaxation technigques and such. Pleased to meet you.

Heidi
