I've heard that they can increase your appitite. That's why so many people gain weight on them. Personally, I stayed at a steady weight for several years and then gained 30 lbs on Zoloft.

I've taken Lexapro in the past, and am on day 2 of Zoloft and my answer is "yes". Either they directly increase my appetite, or decrease my anxiety (anxiety causes me to lose my appetite) and so I eat more. Either way, most people tend to gain weight on SSRI's. I deal with it by staying on them for 4-6 month stints to reset my serotonin which lasts a couple of years. Then I lose the weight, and everything works out fine.
