I'm soooo anxious about trying any meds. I have a hard time taking St. John's Wort and it is natural! I haven't taken enough yet to see if it is helping, but I do not want to take any meds I have heard so many horror stories. Anyone who has had success with them or success getting over anxiety the natural way?

I have suffered from depression and anxiety all my life. I am now 24, and had to make the same decision you are trying to make. I decided to try medication. I am on paxil. I can tell you that it works for me, I can finally know what it's like to live in the moment. And its easier to understand the concepts in this program with less anxiety. If you feel like your in fifth gear, I say try it, how much worse can one possible feel? Give it a good month, if it doesnt work then you know to stop.

Sarahj,
Rather than type my story all over again I am linking one of my first posts here a few years ago about what helped me win my battle with anxiety and finally get off of my meds. I hope it is helpful to you.

Hi
I am 44 and have been anxious and a depressed person as far back as 9. I get it. I tried spiritual soul searching and fasting and special bible studies and changed my diet and exercised and well basically I did everything I could to get better. I finally surrendered to seeing a Dr. and got in and was put on Tofranil
and its Imipramine in the generic form. Its one of the older and millder non addictive anti-depressants. It saved my life and helped me to have hope again. I finally had a clear enough mind to hear Gods voice again , His loving voice and not a voice of fear I had imagined it to be. I am so very glad I did. The only side affect I had and still get is dry mouth and the first month I was dizzy if I got up too fast. No other side affects at all.I wouldn't be afraid of trying something that can change your life for the better. Especially if it just gives a few weeks of unfamiliar body symptoms? Compared to the years of misery? I wouldn't change a thing. BUT....that is my experience. I realize everyones is different. I encourage you to do what you need to do for yourself and to not compare yourelf to anyone else. Take Care and best of luck to you,
bless you

Jill~

Meds have helped me. I am now on celexa and Pristiq. The Pristiq has helped my depression. I feel better. I also have the program which has some really good things to say. But I give most of the credit to God. He enables doctors to help us with meds. So if you think you need them don't be afraid to try. Sometimes it takes a while to find the right one. May God bless you!

Hi Sarah,
I completely know how you feel. Meds can be a bit scary especially if you have worry about how the side affects will affect you. Everyone is different and each medication affects everyone so differently. I was on Lexapro last year and took myself off in the summer. Recently I have been battling with anxiety symptoms at work I am trying to help myself naturally so I do not need to go back on the meds. but if I do not feel better soon I will consider taking medication again. I think you will know when it is right for you to go on medicine or not. Follow your gut insticts. Best of luck!

I personally feel that doctors just perscribe anti-depressants to make more money and really don't care if they actually help.

I was on celexa first and then effexor, yea it helped me initially and I felt better for a while then it got worse, then it got better, and I got sick of that roller coaster so I quit taking meds a year ago.

Since then I have been a lot better thatn I ever was on anti-depressants. Yea I still get stressed and anxiety kicks in, the trick is learning how to handle it. If ya know how your body and mind reacts to stress and anxiety then ya can start experimenting with ways to help it. The program really helped me a lot with learning how to do that.
