I know this isn't about an anxiety medication, but I was just wondering if anyone else uses or has used Advair? My docotr just proscribed it to me even though my asthma isn't very severe. I read the drug info packet that came with it from the pharmacist and the cons greatly outweigh the pros. I know you guys can understand my panicky feelings when I read the long list of possible side effects (especially the one about possible increased asthma related death) I don't feel like my doctor listens to me when I voice my concerns to him. He sorta gives me a half grin like he's only humoring me then talks around my questions without answering them. Basically it comes down to "I'm the doctor and obviously know more than you do" I'm thinking of getting a different doctor because I don't like being made to feel stupid or that my worries are stupid. That's beside the point. Am I being silly for worrying about this medicine?

No you are not being silly for worrying about this medicine.I worry about taking any medicine.Anyone with anxiety worries about taking new meds.We all fear what it may do to us.The side effects are usually worrysome too.Personally,I have one doctor that i go to that cares enough to explain all side effects and prescribes what is best for me.Most other doctors that I have experienced do not care.

jlilangel,

It's so weird that I came across your post today. My husband is like you. He doesn't have, how to I explain this...true asthma where you struggle for breath and have attacks. Years and years ago he said when he played college and a little pro football he had exercise-induced asthma. My husband works out and is active and for soo long hasn't had any problems. Back in November he got a touch of bronchitis. (When he first went to the doctor they said it wasn't brochitis, if he doesn't get any better then take the antibiotic.) To try and make a long story short, even after that, he would always have a nagging, somewhat dry cough constantly and he would end up wheezing. It was so frustrating. He could feel the tightness in his chest too. The allergist gave him nasal sprays, symbicort and preventalin. My husband is not afraid to take medicine, but I hate it. No, I am not afraid of it, but I feel that most times it masks the symptoms and does nothing to solve the problem. (Like I said, he doesn't have asthma attacks where people really need meds...)

I searched days and days and found a great homeopathic tonic for him plus, I have to say, he's changed his diet and lost a few pounds. I told him he could have acid reflux with those symptoms he was having and that's what the allergist finally said. His lung function was great and that she thought it was acid reflux!! It was the most frustrating time and I think you are perfectly fine to read about the medication and make your doctor know that you are a very capable person who isn't going to take anything just b/c a doctor told her to.

But I do hope you feel better and if it isn't that servere, I think trying alternative remedies are always a great option. Good Luck.

Advair saved my life, as a life-long asthmatic. I think this medication, like all others, must be taken with a "which is worse" mentality, even for people with panic disorder (like me! And I catastropise especially with medical iinformation). For me, it's worse NOT TO BREATHE, so I take it.

One other thing I read once... if you read the side effects of aspirin you'd NEVER take it, seriously. It's always about weighing what you need most - relief with the potential of the side effects or no relief but piece of mind.
