For the last couple weeks the way I feel it is unbearable. I get nervousness for no reason, dizzy, can't focus on my job, the only think I focus on it is the way I feel. I am like a dog try to bit my own tail. I have some Paxil CR that my Doctor prescribed couple month a go, never take it.Now I am undecided if I should take those medz. I am afraid by taking Paxil I will have all bunch side effects, feel strange, unreal, slow on my thoughts, less what to be with my partners. What should I do? I am miserable the way I feel, also I am afraid to take medication that can give you a massive of side effects. Please a word of wisdom an encouragement. Thank you, Thank you.

Hello 9oclockreservation, I am sorry to hear of your struggle. Your symptoms definately sound like anxiety and I know many have struggled with the decision to take meds or not, me included. I don't know anything about Paxil CR. I think maybe my brother took that for awhile?

My doctor had recommended Lexapro to me before and I was afraid of the possible side effects so I opted for a more natural approach with 5-HTP. It was an option she gave me and I took it for about six months. I went from hyperventaliting every day to being much more calm. I then eased myself off that and have been doing pretty good since. I can always take it again if I need to. If you have a dr. who is familiar with it in your area, you could ask about it. You do not need a prescription for it, I just prefer to be careful, even with natural supplements, as I have had a few bad reactions to some of them too. Sometimes we have to just jump in with both feet! I was even afraid to take Zyrtec for my allergies and started with half a pill. Then was on high alert for side effects. :D I have been taking a full dose of it now for over 2 years. I just wanted to you know you are not alone in this struggle and I hope you make the best choice for you. It is OK to ask your doctor questions if you have concerns. Take care.

Hi 9oclockreservation,

I want to encourage you to look at all your options and discuss it with your healthcare provider. I have been on meds in the past, and really wanted to do it all naturally. So, after weaning myself off of Lexapro 10mg last July and starting on a regiment of supplements and vitamins, I still ended up with another pretty intense bout of anxiety and depression which started after Christmas. Now I am back on the Lexapro and am having to increase the dosage to see if I can get better relief of symptoms.

I guess what I am saying to you, is not to be afraid of the side effects - especially if the meds help your condition. There can be trial and error - and that is what takes patience. This is the first time that the the initial dosage did not work for me....so I have to be patient.

I'll pray for you to find some peace of mind in your decision and just go for it. We are blessed to live in an age when there are good meds to help us with these very real conditions!!

you sound like me. I was on paxil for a couple years. It worked ok for me. The bad part when i took myself off it igot so sick. They call it the paxil flu. I am now on seroquel. It calms my brain but makes me sleepy. I donn't know what to do either.

Wow...I've been on every medication that is mentioned in this chat!

I was on Paxil for many years, and it did help me quite a bit. However, it did inhibit my sex drive. I am presently on Celexa, which seems to work great, and I don't feel any side effects at all from it. I'd try to list everything, but after over 20 years of this, there's not enough room!

I found Zoloft to be helpful too. But the Paxil...let your doc decide what he thinks is best for you. Like I said, the only side effect it had for me was the lack of sex drive.

I am also on Klonopin for my attacks too. That helps me "refocus" myself, and stay calm when necessary, but that's a benzodiazapine, and they are addictive, so you might want to just start out with the Paxil, Lexapro or Celexa and see how you do.

I was put on Seroquel at one point, but it made me so tired, I couldn't function. I now keep that for when I can't sleep. Take a nibble of one just to help.

I feel like I should be a Pharmacist due to my knowledge of every anti-anxiety and "anti-depressant" medication out there! LOL

Best of luck to you hon! :)
