Switch from Paxil to Lexapro
Hi all, I am new to this website and I think it is a great resource. I have had the program for a few years, but only really work when I am having issues. I have been on Paxil for about 6 years at varying doses and I have tried to switch to Lexapro in January. The wean off Paxil and onto Lexapro went great, very little anxiety and no depression. Then, I was on Lexapro 10mg for 1 month with no problems, then I started with the anxiety and depression, crying all the time. So, my psych dr. increase my Lexapro to 15mg for about 2 weeks, then up to 20mg for about the last week. I am also taking klonopin .5mg twice a day for the constant anxiety I seem to have. I have had a few better days, but I don't think the Lexapro is working for me and I am trying to give it some time, but I am really frustrated b/c my mood does not seem to be improving like it used to on Paxil with a dose adjustment. Any encouraging words/experience would be great. Thanks for everyones great support. I also do yoga, try to relax etc.
A few years ago I was on Paxil for about a year or so, and it really helped me with the issues I had been dealing with. I told my doctor I was concerned about weight gain, so she tried to switch me onto Lexapro. Lexapro did nothing for my mood, and ended up going back to Paxil shortly after. There is just something about Lexapro that doesn't agree with me. I tried taking it again this year when my anxiety and depression reappeared and I had a horrible time with side effects and worsening symptoms.
If it's been well over a month and you don't feel any relief with the Lexapro, you should probably talk to your doctor about switching either back, or to something else.

I just wrote a decent sized reply and it vanished. Damn it! lol.
What I said was, the first time I took Lexapro a couple of years ago I became moody and irritable. I believe I was on 10mgs. My doctor switched me back to Paxil (20mgs I think), and I was fine. The weight gain may not have even been from the drug itself because at the time, I just dropped out of school, had no job, and did nothing productive. Environment plays a huge role. But you said you do yoga, so that will help you from gaining weight. And if you keep active and eat healthy, it shouldn't even be an issue.
The second time taking lexapro was in late January of this year. I probably did lose weight considering I lost any appetite I had. I was living off of fruit cups, yogurt and water for a week. I had headaches, insomnia, was constantly nauseous, and very irritable. My anxiety and depression also worsened. My doctor took me off of that and put me on Nortriptyline, but I didn't like it (3 pills a day), so she prescribed me some xanax, and paxil. After about a month we didn't think the paxil was working, so then she put me on zoloft, and now I am being switched onto Effexor. I have had a lot of drugs in me this year, lol.
But seriously, if you have been taking Lexapro since January, you should be feeling some relief. You might want to talk to your doctor about either trying something new, or going back to Paxil. I don't think you will gain much weight, especially if you are active.
