5htp and benzos

Does anyone know if its ok to take ativan and 5htp together??

Hey, Holly! IOU a pm... been busy

. I've wondered the same, and from what I understand benzos and 5HTP are ok- you just can't take 5HTP with anti-depressants. I've also been told not to take L-Theanine with EITHER... but I don't know if this is entirely true???

YAY fishcee!!! thanks for the reply. you are a busy lady and thank you for taking the time for me. I have been extra depressed and anxious lately and i am even considering taking an anti depressant if the 5htp doesnt work. I will start 5htp tomorrow. I also got the passionflower!!! Now, can i take this with benzos??

If you are not sure, call your pharmasist to make sure. Sorry to hear you arent doing well and are feeling worse, if it continues talk to your doc, even though you have tried AD's before and dont like them, maybe there is something out there that can help you. I wish you quick healing.

Holly, There are many different AD's to try. I could not tolerate SSRI's either, but I take a AD called Nefazadone (brand: Serzone) that is not widely prescribed. It has helped me recover! No side effects, only calm and no anxiety! Only normal anxiety. Do you have a good doc who will help you find something to help you?

I have found a good psychiatrist . In fact she is so good the next appointment is not till october )-: I am on the waiting list and will still see her. I am def frightened of these drugs but I have been feeling so low that i feel i need to at least talk to someone who knows about these drugs, ya know? What class of AD is your's in???

What is 5htp? I see a naturpath and have many of the different natural remedies for anxiety...rescue calm, nervo heal, mintran, passionflower...field of flower...etc.
5htp sounds familiar...what is it?

HollyJ-You know, I am not sure. I know that Wellbutrin is in the same class. Serzone was taken off the market in 1998, but the generic (which I take) is still available. I have taken this med since 1994, and felt so good 2 years ago I stopped. Lots of stress, fell back into the pit of anxiety and depression. I went back on it 10 weeks ago and remember why I was Ok for so long. My doc initially put me on Cymbalta (an SSRI) not wanting to represcribe the old, faithful drug I had been on for so long. Cymbalta was a DISASTER! took 15 weeks off my life, on for 7 weeks, and trying to wean off for 8 weeks. It was horribe. Now I am on the right med. No benzos, just good vitamin routine, exercise, massage, yoga, and the program. I'm good to go. I would love to hear you feel better. I have followed many of your posts. I too am having hormone issues. But I am 49 years old and perimenopausal. That has not helped my condition, only aggrivated it.
