I have been doing alot of research on this subject and it really does sound like me. I was just wondering if anyone else here may be experiencing symptoms of pmdd and if so how you treat it. Has anyone tried YAZ?

I have PMDD and am taking 10mg of Lexapro daily, it has helped tremendously. Instead of 2 weeks of horrific severe PMS I know have like 2-3 days of very mild normal PMS. It has made a huge difference. You can treat PMDD with birth control such as Yaz or you can try an SSRI such as Zoloft, Lexapro, etc...both methods are effective but some people cant take birth control and opt for the SSRI.

My counselor and I were tracking my symptoms for this a while back. I would always get really crazy and emotional the week before my period. Never really concluded if it was PMDD or not though because my symptoms started to subside. I take Yaz now, for other horomonal reasons. I haven't had any issues with it, and I don't even really notice I am on it. Except for the shorter, lighter periods. That's about it.

Thanks for the feedback. I am taking Sinoquan(sp) and ny doctor told me that it should help with my symptoms but it doesn't. I talked to him about Yaz yesterday but he said he didn't recommend it because of my bad history with birth control. I asked what we could about my symptoms and he said that if the Sinoquan(sp) isn't helping then there isn't much we can do. He basically said I am one of those women who just has to deal with it. But sometimes it is really hard to deal with. I'm gonna get a second opinion.

I dont believe that the drug that you are on is an SSRI. I would ask your doctor to prescribe something like Zoloft or Lexapro, which are known to help PMDD. Just because one drug didnt help you does not mean that another wont. I take Lexapro and have little to no PMS since taking it. I know others that have had great relief fron their PMDD while taking these antideppressants. I think it is worth a try to feel better.

Alittle something I found on PMDD. May be a good idea to print and take it to your doctor.

What is the best medication for PMDD?

While there is no single medication that stands out above all others for treating PMDD, the class of drugs known as SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) are the preferred treatments. Among them, fluoxetine (Sarafem), paroxetine controlled-release (Paxil CR), and sertraline (Zoloft) have been approved by the FDA for treating PMDD, but other drugs in this class also appear to be effective. For women who choose to use an oral contraceptive for contraception, a drospirenone/ethinyl estradiol product (YAZ) is also FDA-approved for PMDD. There is no "best" medication for everyone. The decision should be made between you and your clinician, based on your needs and your medical history.

I have been taking YAZ for over a year now for my PMDD symptoms, and it hasn't helped me with my syptoms, my doctor just changed my birth control to YASMIN, it's a stronger dose of YAZ, so we'll see if that works.
