Prozac vs lexapro
Hi Trem
I take Lexapro and I remember it taking me almost a full week before I had the courage to take it. I was so scared of the possible side effects. As a result my doctor suggested that I take half of the 10mg pill for one week. I couldn't even tell I was taking anything! The next week, I graduated to the full 10mg pill. It was such an easy transition for me! The best part? I had already been taking it for the two weeks. Everyone says the first two weeks is the "adjustment period" with antidepressants. I do have to say that the only side effect I experienced was a belly ache when I took it on an empty stomach. I also didn't have much of an appetite those first couple of weeks so I lost a few pounds. Believe me, I'm not complaining about that!!
I know it can be scary to start a new med. My doctor says Lexapro is the "cleanest" antidepressant out there. He said that's why more people are able to tolerate it without any problems. Another thing with Lexapro is that is starts working faster than most SSRI's. At least it did for me.
So go ahead, give it a shot. Ask your doctor if you can take half for the first week like I did. You won't regret that option!

ATTITUDE -- The mind is like a parachute...it doesn't work unless it's open!!
When I started Lexapro 4 months ago, I started at 10mg/day, I had a lot of stomach pain and strange heavy feelings in the back of my head. I was also sweating a lot at that time. But I had all sorts of physical symptoms at that time anyway since I was having an acute case of GAD.
Keep in mind that it takes Lexapro about 3 weeks for it to start to work. So if you feel relief before that it's not from the Lex.
The good news is that when it finally kicks in, it works pretty well. Although I was pretty lethargic from it for a while, but at least I got relief from the wall of anxiety I was feeling!
Except for yawning a lot and feeling a bit lazy, all of my other symptoms went away in a few weeks after my body got used to the Lex.
I wholeheartedly agree with Celeste about weaning into it slowly. But the REALLY important thing to remember is to wean off of it VERY slowly!
I've been weaning off of it since late December. I am now down to 1/4 dose. In another month I will slowly reduce that down to zero. Then I will be free of medication and be completely in charge of running my own life again! But this time I will not let anything to get that worried again. It’s not worth it, nothing is.
“Just take a deep breath and let go of all expectations of how this is suppose to go”
Good luck to you what ever you decide. May God Bless you and peace be with you.
