Just needing feedback from people out there on Cymbalta. Has anyone been on it a long time and NOT had any problems? I've been on it 6 months or so and it's been great so far, but now I'm getting these involuntary muscle movements. Does anyone else experience that?

Thanks everyone!

I have been on Cymbalta for almost two years and it is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I have been on all of the other medications and they did nothing for me. I have not had any of the involuntary movements you are talking about. The only thing I can think of that has been bothersome is if I forget to take it. Man it makes me sicker than a dog. I would suggest you take it at the same time everyday and increase you water intake. I was a personal trainer a while back and normally your muscles will twitch and cramp if you do not have enough water in your system. Give it a try and let me know.

You know you're probably right. I'll try it! Thanks Audra.

I could not believe it when I read that someone was asking about Cymbalta! I was going on this site to see if anyone else had tried to go off it. I had been on Cymbalta for 6 months and finally I researched all of the drugs that I was on. My biggest complaint when I went to the Dr. was my chest pain. I told him that my chest would start hurting and then it would make me nervous and I would panic. As I researched Cymbalta, I found out that it does cause chest pain. (And as far as the tremors...I was having those also.) I decided to go off of Cymbalta...I was only on 20mg once a day so there was no way to just "cut down" on the doseage. The last Cymbalta I took was last Sunday morning and I am still suffering terrible side effects of going off of it. I have experienced pins and needles, slurred speech, numbness and these terrible shock like sensations through my body. These shock sensations were with every step I took. Today, being Friday, the drug is officially out of my system...but I still have the terrible side effects of going off of the drug. Please...do your research. All I did was google "Cymbalta and going off the drug" and did I get the information - same thing happening to tons of people. Also, a very good friend of mine, trying to help me out through this went on the Cymbalta sight and he said that there are pages on the side effects of going off the drug. NEVER AGAIN. I ordered this Attacking Anxiety & Depression way back in February. Today I am functioning enough that I blew the dust off of it and actually started the program. I am also on Wellbutrin XL and Klonopin. I hope to be off of all of my meds by the beginning of next year. (Or at least that is my goal). PLEASE read the Cymbalta information before you take it. I thought I was going to die just going off of it. It also gives you flu like symptoms. It has been terrible and has scared myself, husband and children. I really thought that I would need to be hospitalized on Wednesday - on the 3rd day off of it. That is just how bad it is.

Hi,

Just to let you know that Cymbalta and Effexor are the same med so far as the way they treat depression. I was on Effexor for 2 years, had terrible side affects including chest pains, numbness, tingling, insomnia, body vibrations, and other bad symptoms and it didn't help the depression just made me feel nothing but like a zombie, no motivation at all. I asked my pharmacist about cymbalta and he said it's the same as effexor.

We do really have to look up info on these meds or talk to a pharmacist.

have a good day! :)

I was on Cymbalta for 7 weeks and it was horrible. It tooks weeks after I stopped taking it to come down from it. I got all my closets cleaned out, that's for sure! During that time on Cymbalta I got hooked on Ambien, and am still taking that. I switched to a non SSRI AD and am now doing well. Everyone is different, and you need to work with your doctor to find what is right for you.
Good Luck, and keep posting to get support and encouragement from this site.

Hi,

I have been on Cymbalta 60 mg for three years. It was prescribed for depression and the pain of fibromyalgia. I worked better than anything else for the painful areas of my body but I cannot see any difference otherwise.

At one point I accidentally let myself run out of refills and by the third and forth day I was trembling inside, vomiting, etc. My husband took me in to the doctor and she immediatly gave a sample pill and some water. Later on that day I felt better. However, I DO NOT feel the benefit outways the risks and I will be seeing my doctor soon about weening from it.

But ladies you should never suddenly stop taking ANY antidepressants. That is very dangerous!!!!!

The only issue that I have had with Cymbalta is insomnia. I am supposed to be taking two 20 mg pills each day, one in the morning and one at night, but taking the pill in the pm had me waking up at 2:00am EVERY NIGHT without fail. It was like my eyes would just pop open and I would be wide awake for at least an hour sometimes more.
I talked to my doctor and she said that it would be ok for me to take both pills in the morning, and she also prescribed me Trazodone to help me sleep.
(If this becomes an issue for you please do not take my advice without consulting your doctor, but it is something to discuss with him/her.)
I have been taking two Cymbalta every morning for about two weeks now and it has not affected me negatively in any way. I can finally sleep, and the Cymbalta is definately working for me.

Hope this helped!

Not on Cymbalta, but my advice is that if you "google" any med and the side effects and withdrawals, you are in for sheer terror. Faith, you said you read terrible things about Cymbalta and couldn't believe it, then don't dare google your Klonopin you are taking......said to be harder to stop than heroin, there's even a book with that title. I am on Klonopin as well, and my point is, don't believe everything you read, and we are all different. Please, all, don't say stuff that may scare people into stopping meds abruptly. Yes, read about meds before you take them, just read the insert to Tylenol and you'll think twice. Weigh the risks and benefits, and YOUR PERSONAL situation. And ask your doc, of course, as I always say, I prefer a Psych. These meds ARE their expertise. Just my 2 cents.

Hi Sandina!!!
I see you and I started at about the same time last year... It is nice to see your screen name again!
I am not a professional Medical person. I have just helped a few people get into the medicine by helping them study and heard their experiences in their fields of expertiese.
My thoughts were... women are nortorious for Low Calcium. It is normal for women to get this side effect from low calcium. Cymbalta is a safe Drug. Be sure to share with your Dr. concerning this development. Seadog
