Hi Holly J
I used to be on Paxil... Everyone has different side effects to different medication but I think what you're describing sounds normal... I felt so sick the first couple of weeks... Your body is trying to adjust to the medication, that's all. I read you're supposed to "ride with" the symptoms for several weeks before you feel its full effect.
If you don't feel better a month after taking it (I know I know, seems long but trust me
) Switch medications. You'll start seeing a difference. Good luck!

I believe Pax means peace in Latin. (I know you guys will correct me if I'm wrong!!!
And when I took Paxil, I was peaceful...because I was so ill from the side effects I slept all of the time to avoid them! I can't be anxious if I'm not awake!!! Anyway, I dropped that stuff in under a week, although I know plenty of folks have had really good luck with it. I just couldn't stick it out. I hope you can if that's what you decide to do, as it may be great for you, and I'd hate to think you may lose a chance to get some relief. But if you discontinue taking it, I sure would understand! Good luck to ya! - Donna

Hey there again! I had some uncomfortable side effects with paxil as well. It doesn't help taking it when you have bad anxiety in the first place and know about all of the side effects and know that they will probably happen because our anxiety alone can create new symptoms in fear that the medicine will do it or make the actual symptoms worse. The side effects are supposed to dissipate within several days to a couple of weeks. My cousin and I both had the same side effects from paxil but we got over them fairly soon. Like Raya says, just ride with it if you think you can handle it, it is normal to have these side effects, your body has to acclamate itself to the medication. But if it scares you too much and you can't handle it then don't take it if you don't want to. Good luck.

yeah i stoped taking it.. i had a bad panic attack and i usully can control my attacks and couldnt with this one. my mind was racing i felt like i was going out of control and that i'd do something bad to myself even though i know i wouldnt but i was just so intense. the pharmacist told me to stop taking the paxil. I'd rather feel my normal anxiety than go through what i went through yesterday. i still feel like my chest is heavy and jumpy. and my breathing is not breathing smoothly. . it was so scary. i only took it once tooo and it effected me THAT bad. has anyone else gotten that way from taking an anti-depressant just once. I paged my therapist while going though it and he called back and said that maybe anti-deps dont work for me now because i am older and my body and hormones are changing because they used to work for me until last yr. so i guess thats it with paxil cr for me... i really wanted it to work but i am sooo prone to side effects
