Everyone is so great here with support so wondering if you could offer me some insight.

I suffer from anxiety and deppression. I finally decided to go on Cipralex/lexapro. I am on 5mg for one wk now.

I have such severe anxiety now where it is hard for me to function(daily activities of life) Is this the meds or my anxiety?

I felt bad before but MUCH worse now. I have NO appetite and am losing weight. I can not afford to lose weight. Then I am weak probably due to the anxiety, med and loss of appetite..Or a combination of all??

Sorry just in a bad place right now and don't know what to do.

I have kept my issues private (except for my husband but if I continue to feel like this people are going to know something is wrong.

Not sure what to do. My doctor says there are side effects with these meds but I don't know if mentally & physically I can take them.

Looking for the light at the end of the tunnel.

Talk to your doctor. Everyone tolerates medicines differently. I could not tolerate Xanax and Prozac together. I got worse after taking them as well... suicidal thoughts. I called my doctor and he changed me to something else right away. I am on Zoloft now only and doing well. Don't give up because one medicine makes you feel bad. Hang in there

I had the same side effect when I started taking paxil, however, my anxiety was already getting worse when I started the med. The paxil suppressed my appetite, made me lose weight and feel dizzy etc... but it didn't cause me to feel more anxious. Could it be your body is not feeling good so your brain is confusing it with anxiety?

I know sometimes when I am sick, have a cold etc..., I become very anxious and it sometimes happens if I am not eating properly.

It's kind of like you can't win either way. I think you just need to give your body time to adjust to the medication. It's only been a week and your body needs a lot more time to adjust. My side effects from starting the paxil left after a few weeks.

Hang in there. :)

I know I personally have talked about Lexapro many times in the past few weeks. It did the very same to me, in fact after a week, my pdoc suggested I go up to 10mgs, I faithfully did and a week later was almost at my lowest when I began to see him on day one with my anxiety level. Lexapro heightened my anxiety 100xs fold, and I too was sooooooo nauseated. Nausea is my main anxiety symptom, so again yes, I lost MORE weight and by day 14 he said "stop the med". It took it about 3 days to completely let go, and I take Klonopin 3 times a day too and it broke through even that. Sorry you are not handling the med well either, but I just wanted to say you are not alone.

Thanks all...yes i feel I can't win. My husband says it is just a snapshot in time and it WILL get better I keep holding on to that.

I can take feeling tired but the increased anxiety and loss of appetite is what is really bothering me.

I literally have to force myself to eat..or I will feel weak and then i get anxiety because I feel weak.

I sound Like a crazy person..

Thanks all & any additinal advice always welcome

I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is BETTER than life,my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name, I will lift up my hands." Psalms 63

Yes Harlow, I feel good on Lexapro now, have been on it for 3 months and feel no side effects of it at all. I feel like myself. When I started the first week was rough, I had nausea, burning sensations, couldnt eat, lost some weight, and an increase in anxiety. These are normal btw. I didnt feed into the anxiety, did relaxation techniques, and rested. By the 2nd week I felt better and by the 3-4 week I felt really good. I say give it some more time.

Harlow,
I had a horrible time getting back on Lexapro. I got MUCH MORE anxious than what I started from. I had to take Xanax every day to get the Lexapro nerves to calm down. It was not fun. I even had to take a week off of work. There was no way I'd be able to function in corporate America without anyone noticing something being different. Today, I am better. I started on 7/10/08. Today is 8/22/08. I no longer need the Xanax - and feeling much more relaxed and like "myself."

May God be with you - and try to be patient and do happy things. Take care!!
