My Dr wants to put me on paxil Cr I was wondering if any of you take it and does it work and is it really as bad as they make it sound on the internet? I have a huge medicine phobia so I know that it is going to be hard to take. Also are the withdrawls that bad? My Dr said that the extended release isn't nearly as bad as the old one any advice will help.

Hi Gavinsmom,

I was on Paxil, then when the CR (Controlled Release) came out my doctor switched me to that one. It did not work as well for me. I tried it for three months, then went back to reg. paxil. I do know that I tried to stop taking it "cold turkey" myself 2 or 3 years ago and I won't do that again. Was in the shower when it hit and I thought I was having a heart attack. My husband even called 911.I have heard the CR is not as hard to get off, but don't know from experience since I went straight back on reg. paxil. Good luck and let me know how it works out for you.

I won't get into any details, but I was on Paxil when I was 20...And I wouldn't recommend anyone taking it. Obviously it's because my experience was really rough, and everyones body reacts differently to meds.

This was the worst medicine I have ever been on! It put me into seizures and Effexor wasn't much better. I have been on so many things xanax, lexapro, effexor, paxil cr. ETC..... and nothing worked but I requested to be put on prozac because of a friends recommendation and it was the only one that worked for me and I LOST 10 pounds instead of gaining. I have been on prozac 40 mg for over 2 years now and it has recently began to lose it's effectiveness. I was put on lamictal to stabalize my mood but that went severely wrong and I am now looking into Lucinda's program and doing the free 7 session couse and so far I'm doing alot better than I expected to be and I'm only on the 3rd session. I am looking forward to getting off all medications but I know I can't stop cold turkey because the medication has supplied my body with the chemicals needed to maintain my sanity and if I just stop taking it I will be worse off. I am slowly working toward coming off of prozac and if Lucinda's 7 session course continues to help me I will likely be buying it. Good Luck!!!! and God Bless to all!!!!

Hi Gavinsmom,
I have taken the extended release Paxil (10 mg) and had a great experience with it. I was lucky and didn't experience any side effects and it started working for me in less than two weeks. It took away all my feelings of depression and anxiety. I went off of this medication a year ago because my husband and I were trying to get pregnant (I'm expecting in November :o). I slowly took myself off of Paxil by cutting the pill in half and then taking it every other day. I do not recommend stopping cold turkey! When I would not get my perscription filled on time it was a huge mistake - I felt dizzy, very nauceous and just an overall terrible feeling.
I thought Paxil was a wonder drug for me and I plan to take it again in the future if Lucinda'a program does not work out - I just received the dvd's and Cd's last week.
Good luck to you!

Paula,
I am so happy to hear that Paxil CR worked for you and congratulations on your upcoming family addition, I have 2 children, my son is going to be 10 on Mother's Day and my daughter just turned 4. I can relate to being late on getting my meds filled,I also get that overall terrible feeling if I miss a day on my Prozac and it not only affects me but my whole family. I am really hoping to be able to come off all my Prozac but am also prepared that I may have to take it for the rest of my life even if it's a smaller dose. but only time will tell. Good Luck & God Bless!!!!
Hugs,
Cassie

Hi. I take Paxil CR and love it! I took regular paxil until the CR came out. I switched and it has made a difference. In total I have been taking Paxil or Paxil CR for 11 years. My dose is high (67.5, but it works. With the help of this program, I am hoping to reduce the dosage back down to 50 or even 37.5. This program is wonderful. It has taught me so many coping skills. Please give the meds a try. They will help you get a handle on everything while you learn the skills. Then when you are ready, you can go off of the meds and see how you do. Good luck and I'll be thinking of you. You can e-mail me anytime with questions. :D

Hi,
I had very good results controlling Panic Attacks with Paxil for approximately 6 years. I was doing so well that my doctor decided to gradually decrease the dose. One month after the drug was discontinued I had a panic attack. I am one of the unfortunate percentage of people that gets worse ( more panic attacks and other symptoms) when starting back up on Paxil before getting better. My doctor wanted me to start at 10mg and I was sick to my stomach, shaking and just ill after one dose. So, I lowered it to 5mg. I was able to increase the dose weekly in 2.5mg increments ( I was uncomfortable) but was able to work for 6 weeks. I'm now at 20mg daily and hoping this will be enough to control this. I've been out of work for 2 weeks. I just got too sick (lost 20 lbs) & couldn't think clearly and had a panic attack at work. The doctor said it will take approx. 3 weeks to know if this will work. Has anyone else had this type of experience with Paxil or another SSRI? I would like to mention that the Panic Attack training helped me immensely the 6 weeks I was able to work to control what if thinking. Thanks, Joe

Joe S.,

Did the doctor ever mention to you that the panic attacks could actually be withdrawal from the Paxil? Was on 20/mg per day paxil for 10 years, it pooped out year 7 and I spent two years tapering and this past February and March after completely getting off of it, withdrawal began and had worse anxiety and panic attacks then before taking paxil. Not anything I would wish on my worst enemy. I know I'm not a doctor but I also know that tomorrow will be day 100 off of Paxil and I can honestly say I am feeling better every single day. Believe me I done my research these last few months and what I found out was that Paxil was never intended as a long term fix. I know from my research too that I may still have some lingering effects of the withdrawal and my central nervous system working correctly again but I also know that the coping skills I am learning from this program will help me through anymore withdrawal problems and also to help cure the orginal anxiety and panic that the paxil was never going to cure, it just hid it from me. Sorry to sound so negative but I feel the only good thing about going through the whole paxil ordeal is to hopefully help someon else either get through it or never start.

I'm only on session 2 of this program but I can already tell how much more help this will be for me.

Good luck
