Just curious if anyone knows what you cannot take with anti depressants and benzodiazepams. I wanted to start taking maybe Valerian but i dont want it to interact with my meds. I am on ativan and I am looking to take an herbal supplement to take instead of the ativan.

I'll recommend googling questions, but I'll also recommend talking with your doctor and don't simply switch to see if you're right.

Hi Holly, I think you should talk to a pharmacist or your doc first, but from what I've experienced, you can not take valerian with any benzo or anti depressant. I haven't yet found an herb you can take with most of these kind of meds. I'm on meds too. take care.

I've found that a doctor won't "okay" anything that hasn't been clinically studied over and over.

I'd have a chat with an herbalist if you can find one.

I suggest that she asks the doc to let her try and let him monitor her over time. Depending on the chemistry of the 2 substances, the doc might encourage the herbal supplement. I would get as much info on the herbs ' composition as possible and share it with the doc.

I take a generic for xanax when I have anxiety attacks and my doctor still says it's ok to take Estroven (soy estrogen because I've started the wonderful phase of hot flashes). I haven't had any side from the two, but I agree that you should check with your doctor, pharmicist, and/or herbalist to make sure.Take care, kitty lover
