Anyone with experience with Xanax
I started taking it for flying and found that although it relaxes me for that and other anxiety producing events, it has a horrible rebound effect which makes me difficult to be around. I become edgy and highly irritated so I think I will stick to my Klonopin at night and leave Xanax for the flying. Yes it is addictive.
I started out taking 0.25 mg xanax for anxious episodes and panic attacks. But I have debilitating OCD and GAD. I now take xanax XR 0.5 mg per day and sometimes I wonder, wow! is this what normal people feel like? With the xanax XR I have been able to do what I need to do to help myself- working with the program, trying to overcome the scary OCD thoughts and behaviors, etc. I don't believe xanax is addictive, but you do develop tolerance which means that over time you need to take more the get the desired effect. I have not experienced this yet, but I know it can come up at any time. Oh, I should mention I also take AMbien 10-15 mg for sleeping and 200 mg Lamictal for hypomania and maintenance of bipolar II. I was never prescribed xanax for sleeping.
I have been on Xanax for three and a half years. When I first started on it, I took anywhere from 3 - 4 milligrams a day. The only side effect which was not bad was I just felt very chill and relaxed. At first, I was a little sleepy at work while I got used to it but other than that, I have had no problems. I now take less than a 1/4 of a milligram as I am weening and that has been the hardest part. When I start weening off from the 4 milligrams a day, it was hard and there were some side effects for a few days. I felt like I had the flu, was very emotional and depressed. But it did go away. You just have to stay positive.
