Hi ladies, I've been reading all of the posts about anxiety and hormone issues. There is a wonderful website, even if you've not had a hysterectomy, www.Hystersisters.com. They have been around for years and deal in depth about women's hormonal issues. I'm older than most of you that are posting and did have a hysterectomy 6 years ago. That's when my panic attacks started!
So...I too believe that they are definitely linked
hormones, depression, anxiety and panic attacks.
Finding a balance is the hardest part! I have found that using progesterone cream (finding the right one takes time) has helped lately to calm me down. It's progesterone that is a huge player when we're pregnant and plummets when we give birth!

Hope some of this helps - looking forward to responses.

I agree that hormones can cause problems. What kind of Progesterone cream are you using ? Where do you get it?

Hi all. Yes to the women's forum. Hormones play a major part in our body. More than you may think. My thyroid is over producing, and I'm simply feeling like a used up rag on speed. I'm waiting for radiation on my thyroid, and then we'll see what happens. Has anyone else gone through this? I need to make some decisions & could use any stories/suggestions. Thanks

I think hormones also play a part! I've been either pregnant or breastfeeding (or both) for the past 8 years and I think it's screwed up my hormones.

I'm starting a natural progesterone next week, except for my second pregnancy, I felt great during my pregnancies. My skin was clear, but once I get my period back, I have constant acne. I also have Lyme Disease which can cause anxiety and wreck havoc on hormones. But I think balancing hormones can help a lot!!!

It may not be long enough on the meds to relieve the PMDD. I have heard it can take up to 3 cycles to notice a difference. It helped me instantly, but I dont think that is the norm, I still have some pms, but it is soo mild and only a few days, nothing like before. Give it time and see.

i apologize ladies, as i know that this has started as a woman's site (and please kick me out if you want to keep it that way), but all the talk about hormones is not only a female problem.

my desire to respond here is from denaks posting, as I too have a thyroid issue. anyone who knows anything about the thyroid knows that it is a master gland in a way controlling the metabolism of everything in the body.

my issue is the opposite of your denak, in that i was diagnosed with HYPOthyroid 3 years ago now, and have been really struggling as of late with hormones as my levels are where they should be on synthetic medication, but were lowered in august because i was tense all of the time, anxious, irritable, etc.

now, i am normally a pretty relaxed hombre (especially before this diagnoses), and this past weekend really opened my eyes that perhaps my thyroid is really responsible for my pissy moods and sometimes cloudy outlook.

i am currently looking to switch entirely from synthroid to armour thyroid as i have read where patients who have done so experience relief from cloudy head and better moods (anyone with this experience please let me know how it went).

i have a doctors appointment tommorrow to discuss this, but i just wanted to know if i could join in as a male, as my issues seem to be hormonal as well :)

I have always had a day of bad anxiety before my period, but since I have started tapering off Paxil, it has been horrible!

I am waiting on my period right now and have been so anxious, sad, shakey, just awful...

Once I get my period, it gets better so I am counting the moments until Aunt Flo arrives!

Holly,

thanks for the 'ok'.

The doctor appt was alright, as my doctor is open to me trying the more natural, Armour Thyroid for treatment.

the only thing that i now realize, is that you cannot go into a dr appt with emotion. if you do, i believe that they will want to either address the emotion as part of the problem (you are upset, so you must be anxious or depressed), or completely write your concerns off altogether as just being emotional.

the reason i say this, is because i was doing fine with my appointment and had gotten approval to try the natural thyroid drug, when i started rambling. you see, i have been unsure (and trying to figure out) where my anxiety is coming from. is it coming from me, or is it the medication (wrong kind of med).

now, i think that this is a completely understandable line of reasoning, as if one has a strange pain that consistently stays with you, you would want to check for what it is, no?

well, i have had lingering mental fog and anxiety for almost the whole year, and though it has gotten much better, i can't help but remark that i still don't feel 100% me. i feel slightly off.

and that slightly off feeling makes me wonder what it is.

and the wondering what it is (my anxiety or a possible reaction to medication) had my doctor telling me that i should consider a low dose anti-anxiety medicine to "put this behind me and get on with my life".

now, God bless her and her concern. but i do not think that she is listening to me on this one. even though i did get the ok to go ahead and try what i am interested in, i started to ramble a bit and lost focus.

so, i have now learned that when you go to a doctor, you must stay focused, and be quantitative in your symptoms- i am sleeping 10 hours per night and still waking up feeling tired..., etc) for that is the only way to be truly considered.

i will now save my emotions for the counselor who is trained to deal with that side of things.
